Those rounded percentages do not show Apple TV+ ahead, and they are not paid-subscriber counts.
What the Q2 2024 figures show
A June 28, 2024 report by 9to5Mac, citing a JustWatch report, placed both Apple TV+ and Paramount+ at 9% in the United States for Q2 2024. Apple TV+ had risen by one percentage point to that reported figure; Paramount+ was also listed at 9%.
The same comparison listed these nearby services:

Because the displayed Apple TV+ and Paramount+ values are equal, the headline’s “overtakes” wording is not supported by the published ranking at its reported precision. The figures do not include unrounded values or a formal statistical margin that would establish which service was ahead.
Does Apple TV+ have more subscribers?
These figures cannot answer that question. The JustWatch comparison is described as market share, not a published count of paid subscribers for each service. The cited 2024 report does not establish exact Q2 2024 US paid-subscriber totals for either Apple TV+ or Paramount+.

It would therefore be inaccurate to conclude from the two 9% figures that Apple had more subscribers. Subscriber estimates from a different provider would also measure a different unit and should not be treated as directly comparable to this JustWatch share.
What changed in the later Q2 2026 snapshot?
A separate ranking for the United States in Q2 2026, summarized by Apple World Today on July 9, 2026, put Apple TV+ at 13% and Paramount+ at 3%:

This later snapshot shows a different reported ranking at a different time; it does not retroactively prove Apple TV+ led in Q2 2024 or establish why the shares changed. Apple World Today says the Q2 2026 figures draw on more than 45 million US streaming interactions across more than 320 SVOD providers during the three-month measurement period. It characterizes the measure as user interest and engagement, not a census of subscribers. Its account does not provide the full sampling or weighting methodology.

In the 2024 report, JustWatch said Apple TV+ had increased its overall market share and that several original titles ranked on its streaming charts during the quarter. It also said Apple TV+ was “moving closer to Disney+ in terms of size in the US SVOD market.” The statement was attributed to JustWatch as an organization; 9to5Mac did not name a spokesperson.
