Billie Eilish was named Apple Music’s Artist of the Year for 2024. Apple announced the award on November 21, 2024, citing her impact during the year and highlighting her album HIT ME HARD AND SOFT.
Why did Billie Eilish win Apple Music’s Artist of the Year?
Apple framed the award as recognition of Eilish’s impact throughout 2024. Its announcement pointed to several moments: the release of HIT ME HARD AND SOFT, her contribution to the Barbie soundtrack with “What Was I Made For?”, her performance of “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” at the Olympic closing ceremony, and her collaboration with Charli xcx on “Guess.” These are Apple’s stated examples, not a published scoring formula or a claim that one achievement alone determined the award. Apple’s announcement also reported that the album reached No. 1 on Apple Music’s all-genre albums chart in 138 countries worldwide after its release; that figure describes Apple Music chart positions, not global sales or an independent ranking.
Has Billie Eilish won the award before?
Yes. Apple said Eilish was the first person to receive its Artist of the Year honour twice. Her earlier win was the inaugural award in 2019.
What did Billie Eilish and Apple Music say?
Apple Music senior director of Content and Editorial Rachel Newman said: “From the moment we first heard ‘Ocean Eyes’ nearly a decade ago, we’ve been fans and champions of Billie’s work,”
