Amazon has not announced a premiere date for its God of War series. The show is in production and has a two-season order, according to its official series page. Dave Bautista is set to play Kratos, with Callum Vinson as Atreus.
When does the God of War series come out?
There is no confirmed release date or official release window. Amazon’s series page says production is underway but does not give a premiere date. Any specific year or month should therefore be treated as speculation, not an announcement.

GamesRadar has suggested a mid-2028 release, but that is the outlet’s estimate, not a date or forecast from Amazon. Production timing could change, so check the official series page for updates.
What is the God of War TV series about?
The story follows Kratos and his son Atreus on a journey to spread the ashes of Faye, Kratos’s wife and Atreus’s mother. Amazon describes the relationship as a two-way lesson: Kratos tries to teach Atreus to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father to be a better human.

Amazon says the adaptation will closely follow the stories of the last two God of War games, with the father-son relationship at its center. The official description puts the journey this way: “Father and son Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye.”

Why was Kratos recast?
Ryan Hurst, who had been cast as Kratos, departed after an on-set injury, Variety reported on August 21, 2026. The report said his scenes would be reshot with Bautista and that production was expected to resume in the coming weeks. That was an estimate reported at the time, not confirmation of the current production schedule.
Who is making the series?
Ronald D. Moore is the showrunner, executive producer and writer. Frederick E.O. Toye is directing the first two episodes. Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios are co-producing the series in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions, according to Amazon.

Will the series cover both recent God of War games?
Amazon says the show will closely follow the stories of the last two games, but it has not provided a detailed episode-by-episode plan or specified how the material will be divided across the two seasons. Its stated focus is the relationship between Kratos and Atreus, rather than a scene-by-scene adaptation announcement.
