Andhera is a Hindi horror series that mixes psychological unease, supernatural menace and technology-driven mystery. It is listed on Prime Video; whether it is available to stream depends on your region. The series may appeal if you enjoy eerie atmosphere and horror that crosses genres, but Scroll.in reviewer Nandini Ramnath found its slow build, repetition and many interwoven plotlines less effective than its individual ideas.
What is Andhera about?
Set beneath Mumbai’s skyline, the series follows Inspector Kalpana Kadam as she investigates a disappearance and a spreading supernatural darkness. Medical student Jay and paranormal investigator Rumi pursue connections between the phenomenon, Jay’s experiences and other events. Excel Entertainment’s official synopsis describes a sinister force hunting the living; the premise brings a police investigation into contact with the paranormal without giving away later turns.
The main credited cast includes Prajakta Koli as Rumi, Surveen Chawla as Ayesha, Priya Bapat as Kalpana Kadam and Karanveer Malhotra as Jay. Excel Entertainment uses “Karanveer”; Prime Video’s listing spells the name “Karanvir.”
What kind of horror does it offer?
Ramnath described Andhera as “an ambitious mesh of psychological horror, supernatural elements and rogue technology.” That combination makes it a genre blend rather than a straightforward ghost story: the series connects eerie happenings with a police case, characters’ experiences and technology. Its atmosphere is a central part of the appeal, while the accumulating strands also contribute to the story’s complexity.

- CRYSTAL CLEAR CALLS: A built-in microphone provides you with hands-free calling. No need to even take your phone from your pocket.
- MULTIPOINT CONNECTION: Quickly switch between two devices at once.
Ramnath praised the camera work, background score, sound design and makeup for delivering much of the show’s unease. She singled out cinematographer Huentsang Mohapatra, composer Ketan Sodha, sound designer Vivek Sachindanand and makeup artist Preetisheel Singh. Her assessment gives the production craft a stronger role in the chills than the performances, which she called mostly serviceable.
Does the story hold together?
Ramnath’s main reservation was that the series takes time to build and returns to ideas, while threading together numerous plotlines. In her view, the pieces can be more intriguing than the overall story. That trade-off matters: viewers drawn to mood, strange imagery and genre-mixing may enjoy following its separate mysteries, while those looking for brisk pacing and a tightly focused plot may find the experience frustrating.

Is Andhera worth watching?
Consider it if you want atmospheric Hindi horror with psychological, supernatural and technology-related elements, and you are willing to sit with a slow, layered build. If concise plotting and economical pacing matter more to you than production mood, Ramnath’s criticisms point to a reason to skip it. Her verdict was that it is “a fitfully frightening affair, its parts more intriguing than its sum.”
