In interviews, she described a long-term relationship and a supportive work partnership, but she did not confirm engagement reports in December 2023. Later coverage reported that she was single in May 2025; that status comes from ELLE’s account of a Times interview, rather than a direct review of the original interview.
What Sydney Sweeney said about keeping the relationship private
In a December 2023 interview with Glamour UK, Sweeney explained why public accounts of the relationship could diverge from what she had actually shared: “Also, I’ve never really shared that much [about my relationship], so the press loves to create drama in stories.” She also said, “I’ve been in a steady relationship for a really long time, which is not normal in this industry and not normal for my age.”
Those remarks establish how she described the relationship at that time. They do not confirm every detail subsequently attached to it, nor do they make public appearances or social-media activity reliable evidence of private events.
What she clarified about Davino—and what she did not confirm
In the same interview, Sweeney described Davino as a business guy from Chicago and pushed back on claims about his background: “He’s not a restaurateur.” She also rejected the claim that he was an heir to a pizza company. She did not confirm engagement reports when asked, so the reported engagement timeline should not be treated as something she had publicly verified in that conversation.

What she said about wedding planning and working together
In December 2023, Sweeney told Entertainment Tonight that wedding planning had not advanced because she was busy working. “I am so busy working! I’m a workaholic and I love it, I love it,” she said.
She spoke warmly about having Davino as a producing partner: “It’s amazing having someone who cheers you on and someone who fully just supports what you do.” This is a statement about their professional collaboration and support, not a confirmation of wedding plans or other private details.

How she described their partnership in October 2024
In an October 2024 report of her Glamour cover interview, Sweeney addressed claims that she depended financially on Davino. She said: “I’m a very successful, independent woman who’s worked really hard. I’ve accomplished and bought everything myself, and I provide for myself and my family.”
She also described them as collaborators and supporters: “We’re teammates. We’re in it together. And we want to see each other succeed.” In that interview, her comments concerned her financial independence and their shared support for her production work; they did not establish the couple’s private status beyond what she chose to say.

Reported timeline: separate media milestones from Sweeney’s remarks
The public timeline includes reported milestones, but not all of them come from Sweeney’s own statements. ELLE’s retrospective says the pair were first linked in 2018 and engagement reports appeared in 2022. Those are press-reported dates, not dates established by the interview passages above.
- 2018: ELLE says the pair were first linked that year.
- 2022: ELLE says reports of an engagement appeared. In December 2023, Sweeney declined to confirm those reports in her Glamour UK interview.
- December 2023: Sweeney discussed privacy, corrected claims about Davino’s background, and spoke about wedding planning and working together.
- October 2024: In remarks from her Glamour cover interview, she addressed financial-independence claims and described them as teammates.
- February–March 2025: ELLE’s retrospective says reports of wedding delays and a breakup surfaced. These were press reports; they are not a confirmed explanation from Sweeney.
- May 31, 2025: ELLE reported that Sweeney told The Times she was single and enjoying time with friends. Because the original Times interview was not directly reviewed here, this is best attributed to ELLE rather than presented as a directly verified quotation.
Neither a reported timeline nor an interpretation of a photograph or social-media change establishes why a relationship ended. The most grounded account is to keep Sweeney’s on-record comments distinct from later media reporting.
