ABC’s canceled Taylor Frankie Paul season of The Bachelorette is associated with a reported estimate of roughly $30 million in production and marketing costs—not a confirmed $30 million loss disclosed by ABC or Disney. Broader estimates put potential exposure above $60 million when possible lost advertising is included, but that figure is also not a verified net loss.
Why ABC canceled the season
ABC pulled the already filmed season three days before its planned March 22, 2026 premiere. On March 19, Disney Entertainment Television said it would not move forward with the season “at this time,” following the release of video from a 2023 altercation involving Taylor Frankie Paul and her former partner, Dakota Mortensen. The statement added that the company’s focus was supporting the family. ABC News reproduced the statement.
The video and a separate police investigation should not be conflated. ABC News reported that Draper City police had an open investigation involving allegations in both directions; that is not a finding about the investigation or proof of any allegation.
What the $30 million estimate includes
Forbes, citing a Hollywood Reporter estimate, put production and marketing exposure at roughly $30 million. Its account gave an estimated production cost of $20 million to $25 million, plus several million dollars in marketing. The production calculation assumed about $2 million per episode and a 10-to-13-episode range based on previous seasons; ABC had not announced the planned episode count. These are reported estimates, not figures confirmed by ABC. Forbes detailed the estimates and their basis.

“Cost” here is not the same as a realized net loss. A completed production may leave the company with substantial spending whether or not it airs, while the ultimate financial result also depends on advertising, replacement programming, licensing arrangements, and any later distribution of the season. The available reporting does not establish ABC’s final net result.
How lost advertising changes the estimate
Forbes reported a Guideline estimate of $20 million to $35 million in possible lost advertising revenue. Combining that potential foregone revenue with production and marketing costs led to a reported estimate of upwards of $60 million in potential cost. That is a broad exposure estimate—not an audited loss or a number ABC or Disney publicly confirmed.

The prior-season advertising figure gives context for the franchise’s ad market, but it cannot be treated as the revenue ABC had secured for this particular season. Nor should the $30 million production-and-marketing estimate simply be added to the $30.7 million prior-season spending figure: they refer to different seasons and different kinds of measures.
What ABC’s replacement programming could offset
Forbes reported that ABC planned to fill the vacated Sunday slot with an American Idol rerun. That programming could still carry ads, although Forbes said they were likely to sell for less than ads around a Bachelorette premiere. The rerun therefore may reduce foregone revenue without necessarily replacing the canceled premiere’s advertising value.

Forbes also identified possible licensing fees to Warner Bros. Unscripted TV and the cost of replacement programming as considerations, but did not quantify them. The reporting does not provide enough information to calculate a net loss after those factors or any later use of the completed season.

- May 8, 2026: TheWrap reported that the season was not on ABC’s summer schedule. Walt Disney Television executive Rob Mills said the company was still processing events and taking things a day at a time; he did not promise that it would air. TheWrap reported on the summer schedule.
- September 3, 2026: The Daily Beast reported that Paul discussed a brief engagement from the unaired finale in a Hulu podcast preview. The report indicated the season remained unaired, but did not establish a final ABC decision. The Daily Beast covered the finale detail.
The cited reports through September 2026 establish neither a final decision to release the season nor a confirmed realized net loss. The season’s eventual status and the company’s ultimate financial outcome remain unresolved in that reporting.
