AMC cited a 100-point Rotten Tomatoes score when it announced the show’s season-two renewal, but that was a score reported at the time—not a permanent rating. A July 2026 secondary roundup placed the series at No. 8 on a U.S. Netflix Top 10 list; that dated chart position is not an official Netflix viewing figure.
What is Dark Winds about?
Dark Winds follows Navajo police officers Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee as they investigate crimes in the American Southwest. AMC described it as a Western noir crime thriller; Rotten Tomatoes classifies the series across crime drama, mystery/thriller, and western categories. The show adapts Tony Hillerman’s Leaphorn and Chee mystery novels.
Its mix of police investigation, mystery, and Western setting is the defining premise—not a documentary or a true-crime account. AMC’s renewal announcement described the series as having a 100-point Rotten Tomatoes score at that time. Because Rotten Tomatoes scores can change as reviews are added, that historical claim should not be read as confirmation of the current score. The site has a season-four page, but a live score and review count are not established here.
Did Dark Winds become a Netflix hit?
There is evidence of Netflix availability and a dated U.S. chart appearance, but not of Netflix-reported viewing totals. Netflix included the show in a viewing guide published July 3, 2026. A Tom’s Guide roundup published July 2026, describing its U.S. Top 10 as of Tuesday, July 7, listed Dark Winds at No. 8. That is a secondary report of a chart position for a particular date, not an official Netflix audience figure or proof of a sustained hit.

What do the audience figures actually show?
AMC reported that the June 12, 2022 season-one premiere drew 2.2 million viewers in Nielsen live+3 ratings. AMC also called it the fifth-largest cable drama premiere of that broadcast season. Those figures refer to the show’s original AMC premiere and its specified ratings window; they say nothing about Netflix viewing.
