Reports from April 2025 describe disruptive reactions to the “Chicken Jockey” scene at some A Minecraft Movie screenings, including shouting, cheering and thrown food. Police were reportedly called in some separate incidents. But the reporting reviewed here does not independently verify the specific viral video or establish that it shows police removing children from that theater.
What is the “Chicken Jockey” scene?
In A Minecraft Movie, Jack Black’s character calls out “chicken jockey” as a baby zombie rides a chicken. The phrase refers to a rare occurrence in the game, where a baby zombie rides a chicken like a mount, as ABC Australia reported.
Coverage described the shout as a cue for some audience members to cheer or yell; some also threw popcorn or other items. Reactions were not the same everywhere: The Guardian reported that some screenings were quiet.
Does the viral video show cops removing kids?
The Independent reported that a viral video showed police being called to a screening, but its April 10, 2025 article does not identify the precise clip or independently establish that officers removed children from the theater shown in it: The Independent’s report.

That distinction matters because separate Australian incidents were also reported. ABC Australia said a screening in Forest Hill, Victoria, was paused and security was called. It separately reported police being called after an alleged altercation involving two adults and two 14-year-olds in Erina, New South Wales. Those accounts do not authenticate or explain the specific viral video.
What did theaters report, and how did they respond?
| Place or report | What was reported | Response described |
|---|---|---|
| Township Theatre, Washington Township, New Jersey | Owner Laura Rose told News 12 New Jersey that patrons threw popcorn and drinks, put lotion on seats and ripped seats from the floor; the theater cited vandalism and complaints. | Management required minors to attend with a parent or responsible adult and said unaccompanied groups of boys would not be admitted. ABC News also reported the theater policy. |
| Forest Hill, Victoria, Australia | ABC Australia reported a screening pause amid disruption. | Security was called. This account describes security, not police, responding. |
| Erina, New South Wales, Australia | ABC Australia separately reported an alleged altercation involving two adults and two 14-year-olds. | Police were reportedly called after the alleged altercation. |
| UK theaters | The Guardian documented warnings to audiences, while also noting that some screenings were quiet. | Warnings were reported; the article does not describe a single uniform policy across theaters. |
Township Theatre Management’s statement, quoted by News 12, said: “Any minors wishing to see The Minecraft Movie MUST be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult. Unaccompanied groups of boys will not be admitted.” These examples describe different measures—warnings, admission rules, a screening pause, security attendance and a reported police call—not one response applied everywhere.

Why did audiences react this way?
The scene’s recognizable game reference and shouted line gave some viewers an obvious moment to react. Writer and filmmaker Jamie Tram suggested that filming reactions for social media may motivate some participants, but the reporting does not establish one motive for everyone. Jason DiRosso, host of ABC Radio National’s The Screen Show, put the uncertainty plainly: “It’s hard to know why they’re doing it.” Both comments were reported by ABC Australia.
Director Jared Hess also addressed the response. ABC News, quoting Entertainment Weekly, reported Hess saying: “It’s weird when you’re having too much fun and the cops get called.” That remark does not verify what happened in any particular clip.

How widespread were the disruptions?
The April 2025 reports document incidents and theater responses, but do not provide a reliable denominator or representative count of disrupted screenings. Viral clips and individual accounts cannot establish how often the behavior occurred. The Guardian’s report of quiet screenings is a reminder that the reaction was not universal.
The Guardian reported an approximate worldwide gross of $314 million in its April 9, 2025 article. That is a figure reported at that time, not a current total, and it does not indicate how common theater disruptions were.
