How to read the figures
This is a selection of notable purchases and expenditures reported by news outlets and biographical sources, not a verified top-nine list. The amounts span different years and currencies, and they do not all describe the same thing: some are reported transaction prices, one is a disputed sale figure, and some are historical spending claims. Current ownership and current asset values are not established by these reports.

Malibu compound — reported $24 million purchase in 2017
The Los Angeles Times reported on December 11, 2017, that Cowell paid $24 million for a gated, nearly two-acre bluff-top compound. The property included a six-bedroom, seven-bathroom main house of more than 8,600 square feet, a tennis court, swimming pool, koi pond and ocean views. The report noted it had previously been offered at higher asking prices.

Beverly Hills home — reported $15.5 million purchase
The same Los Angeles Times report said Cowell bought a Beverly Hills home from former AEG Live chief Randy Phillips for $15.5 million. The paper attributed the price to sources not authorized to comment publicly. At the time of the article, the home was being shopped off-market in the $30 million range; that was an asking indication, not a sale price.

Earlier Beverly Hills mansion — reported $8 million purchase in 2004
Celebrity Net Worth says Cowell paid $8 million for a Beverly Hills mansion in 2004, renovated it over five years and sold it in August 2020 for $25 million. This is a retrospective secondary-source account, and it concerns a separate home from the $15.5 million purchase above.

Holland Park home — reported £15 million sale, disputed
In 2023, The Guardian reported that Cowell had sought offers around £45 million for his London home and agreed to sell it for £15 million, citing a lender for the buyer. The story also quoted an unnamed source close to Cowell disputing the figures and the reported speed of the agreement: “The figures being thrown around are ludicrously wrong and nor did it take four days.” Cowell’s spokesman did not respond to the paper’s requests, so the £15 million figure should not be treated as settled.

The Guardian said Cowell had lived in the house for 16 years and decided to leave London after burglaries and home invasions. In a statement to the court, he said: “There is a constant fear it may be repeated and that it may be worse next time.”

Hidden Hills equestrian property — $3.9 million purchase, then resale in 2020
The Los Angeles Times reported that a trust tied to Cowell bought Leona Lewis’s Hidden Hills estate for $3.9 million in August 2020. Ten days later it was listed for $3.7 million; it sold for $3.6 million in October. The estate included a main home, guesthouse, pool, stable and riding arena. This was a brief purchase and resale, not evidence of a home Cowell retained.

Bugatti Veyron — historical report of £750,000
A 2008 Evening Standard profile reported that Cowell bought a Bugatti Veyron for £750,000. A later Celebrity Net Worth profile lists a black Veyron and gives an approximate base price of $1.7 million. Those are different currencies and kinds of figures, reported at different times; neither establishes the car’s current value or Cowell’s precise transaction price.

Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe — historical report of £400,000
The same 2008 Evening Standard profile reported a £400,000 purchase price for Cowell’s Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe. The figure is a historical newspaper report, not a current valuation.

Designer clothing and shoes — period spending claims
The 2008 Evening Standard profile said Cowell spent £5,000 on T-shirts during a shopping trip and bought handmade Berluti shoes for £1,000 a pair. These are attributed reports of spending at the time, not a reconciled record of purchases across his life.

Hotel stays and private-jet travel — reported expenses, not owned assets
The same 2008 profile reported hotel stays at Sandy Lane costing £3,000 per night and private-jet trips with prices starting at £11,000. These are historical expenditure claims, not purchase prices for property or aircraft, and do not establish recurring costs.

What the reports do—and do not—establish
The property accounts offer the clearest large transaction figures, particularly the 2017 Malibu purchase. They still differ in attribution and status: some are reported purchases, the Holland Park amount is disputed, and the Hidden Hills deal ended in a resale. The older car and lifestyle figures are useful as period reports, but should not be compared directly with later real-estate transactions as if they were current, like-for-like valuations.
No official public ledger or authoritative ranking establishes Cowell’s complete purchases. The available reporting supports a selection of notable transactions and spending claims, not a definitive list of his nine most expensive purchases.
