Spoilers for the Season 2 finale, “Cold Harbor.” The tenth episode delivers major revelations and ends with Mark making a consequential choice, but it does not settle every mystery in Severance. The episode’s events, creator Dan Erickson’s interview explanations, and interpretations of the ending are distinct; keeping them separate makes clear what viewers know and what remains uncertain.
What is “Cold Harbor”?
“Cold Harbor” is Season 2, Episode 10, and the season finale. Apple TV Press lists the season’s release date as January 17, 2025, and Apple’s episode page identifies “Cold Harbor” as the finale. Apple’s official season description says: “In season two, Mark and his friends learn the dire consequences of trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe.”

What happens to Mark at the end?
At the end, Mark’s innie turns toward Helly instead of continuing toward Gemma and the exit. The Washington Post describes this as a choice that places Mark’s innie’s immediate aims in conflict with his outie’s intentions. That is a report on the finale’s ending, not a creator-confirmed explanation of every motive behind it.

The choice leaves the central tension intact: Mark’s innie has relationships and desires of his own, while the outie’s plans point in another direction. The ending makes that conflict consequential rather than resolving it for the viewer.
What does the finale reveal about “Cold Harbor”?
The episode makes revelations around Cold Harbor, but the title should not be read as a promise that all of Severance’s mysteries have been answered. Dan Erickson discussed questions raised by the finale in a post-finale interview with TV Insider. His comments are useful for understanding what the creator has explained; they should not be treated as proof of fan theories or as a complete account of everything the series has left open.

The available episode and interview information supports a careful distinction: what the finale shows is on-screen fact; what Erickson says in the interview is his stated explanation; broader conclusions about the story remain interpretation unless the episode or creator confirms them.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What remains unresolved?
The finale invites questions about what comes next for Mark and Helly and how the consequences of Mark’s decision will play out. “Can love transcend severance?” is one critic’s framing of the problem, not an official question with a definitive answer supplied by the episode. The ending establishes the stakes of Mark’s choice without settling every consequence or explaining every larger mystery.

Erickson’s post-finale discussion itself engages with questions rather than presenting the season as a total solution. The available information does not establish the production status of a later season, so it cannot support claims about when—or whether—these open questions will be answered.
