The Television Academy calls him “A seven-time champion of the flagship series”; the seven seasons named in a published retrospective are The Island, The Ruins, Rivals, Battle of the Exes, Free Agents, Rivals III and Total Madness.
How many seasons of The Challenge has Johnny Bananas won?
He has seven championships on the flagship MTV series, according to the Television Academy’s 2023 profile and a 2022 Us Weekly retrospective. The count is specifically for the flagship show; it does not establish a total across spin-offs or every international version.

Johnny Bananas’s seven winning seasons
- The Island
- The Ruins
- Rivals
- Battle of the Exes
- Free Agents
- Rivals III
- Total Madness
The Television Academy’s description of Devenanzio as “The Challenge’s most decorated player” accompanies its seven-time-champion framing. MTV’s archive describes him as taking the men’s top prize on Total Madness.
Why Rivals III is a distinctive win
Bananas competed with Sarah Rice on Rivals III. The final gave the winning team a choice about whether to share its prize. A 2016 fan-maintained season reference says Bananas kept the entire $275,000 first-place award. TV Insider’s 2025 retrospective graphic lists the season’s prize pot as $276,000. Those are different figures from different descriptions, so the prize-pot listing should not be treated as the same amount as the first-place award.

What the seven-win count does—and does not—cover
The available sources support a flagship-season count, not a comprehensive franchise-wide winner ledger. A comparison with another competitor should specify whether it counts only flagship championships or also spin-offs, and how partnered victories are attributed. The seven-win figure also says nothing by itself about total cash won.
