Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone have appeared together in three feature films: Crazy, Stupid, Love. (2011), Gangster Squad (2013), and La La Land (2016). For a story led by their on-screen connection, start with La La Land; for a relationship comedy, choose Crazy, Stupid, Love. This ranking puts La La Land first, but the best pick depends on the kind of film you want.
1. La La Land (2016)
Stone plays Mia, an aspiring actress, and Gosling plays Sebastian, a jazz musician. The two are drawn together by their shared desire to pursue their creative ambitions. The film combines musical, romance, comedy, and drama, with its central relationship at the heart of a story about love and the demands of an artistic life. It ranks first here because the pairing and the tension between romance and ambition give the film a particularly focused role for both actors. That is an editorial preference, not an objective measure of quality.
2. Crazy, Stupid, Love. (2011)
Gosling plays Jacob Palmer, and Stone plays Hannah. Their characters are part of an ensemble of intersecting romantic stories, making this a good choice if you want the pair in a relationship comedy rather than the musical-romance focus of La La Land. Rotten Tomatoes’ critics consensus highlights the film’s sweetness and cast: “It never lives up to the first part of its title, but Crazy, Stupid, Love.’s unabashed sweetness — and its terrifically talented cast — more than make up for its flaws.”

3. Gangster Squad (2013)
This crime-action film puts Gosling and Stone in a different setting from their romantic comedies. Rotten Tomatoes’ critics consensus praises its style and cast but objects to the writing, character development, and violence: “Though it’s stylish and features a talented cast, Gangster Squad suffers from lackluster writing, underdeveloped characters, and an excessive amount of violence.” That critical framing informs its third-place position here; viewers who prefer crime stories may reasonably rank it higher.
