From competitive martial arts to the screen
Born Carlos Ray Norris in Ryan, Oklahoma, on March 10, 1940, Norris established himself in martial arts before becoming a film and television star. The Associated Press reported that he won six world professional middleweight karate championships and founded a Korean-based American hard style as well as the United Fighting Arts Federation. Those are reported career achievements, not a current title or an independent ranking.
At the time of its March 2026 report, AP also put the federation’s Chuck Norris System black-belt count at more than 3,300 worldwide. That is the federation figure reported then, not a personal tally of belts awarded by Norris.

Films and television that defined his screen career
Norris’s screen work moved between action films and television. Reuters’s obituary summary, republished by Investing.com, names Code of Silence, Missing in Action and The Delta Force among his defining films, alongside Walker, Texas Ranger, the long-running television role in which he played Texas Ranger Cordell Walker. Reuters’s account, republished by Investing.com, covers that career.
In a 1996 interview with the Associated Press about Walker, Texas Ranger, Norris described the show’s moral framework: “It’s not violence for violence’s sake, with no moral structure,” he said, describing its concern with fighting injustice and good versus bad. His explanation placed the series’ action within an explicitly stated distinction between right and wrong.
AP also noted his later appearances in The Expendables 2 (2012) and Agent Recon (2024). Its March 2026 report described Zombie Plane as upcoming; that was the report’s description at the time, not confirmation of the film’s release status today.

The Chuck Norris Facts jokes turned his tough screen persona into a source of deliberately impossible claims shared online. AP reported that Norris embraced the phenomenon and collected favorite examples, stories and personal codes in The Official Chuck Norris Fact Book. The meme-era persona became another layer of his public image, built on the exaggerated toughness audiences already associated with his action roles.
