Chatfield reportedly called the comparison a “silly joke,” then said she felt uneasy about it. The comparison drew attention, but the events had sharply different consequences.
What did Abbie Chatfield say?
PerthNow reported that Chatfield posted a video under a minute long, saying: “Trump being shot in the ear and it just missing his head is really similar to the time I was on I’m A Celebrity. . . Get Me Out Of Here! and I got bitten by a non-venomous snake on my hand.” The outlet described the video and transcribed its wording; the original TikTok was not independently verified for this account. PerthNow’s July 15 report is the source for the clip’s description.
According to that report, Chatfield called the post a “silly joke” and later said, “This was a joke to start off with but now I feel sick.” She also expressed unease and predicted Trump would win. The video was therefore reported as both a joking comparison and a reaction to the political consequences she thought might follow.
What happened at Trump’s rally?
The shooting took place at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on July 13, 2024. PolitiFact’s overview reports that Trump was struck in the upper part of his right ear. One person in the audience was killed, two others were injured, and Secret Service snipers killed the gunman.

That loss of life and the injuries are essential context for understanding why the comparison attracted attention. Chatfield’s reported snake bite was a non-venomous bite during a reality-TV appearance; the sources cited here do not establish enough about the bite’s medical severity to compare the injuries medically. In scale and consequence, however, the rally shooting involved a fatality and other people harmed, unlike the snake-bite incident as described in the report.
How did people react to the video?
PerthNow described the comments as mixed and quoted one person criticizing the comparison as self-important, while another replied, “You’re onto something,” referring to Chatfield’s prediction. Those are selected examples from the comment section, not a representative measure of audience opinion.
