Selena Gomez’s former Encino home was built for Tom Petty and Jane Benyo, later became the setting for three seasons of Selena + Chef, and reportedly sold for $5.4 million in 2026. Its skylit living room, marble-and-brick kitchen, recording studio and resort-style backyard tell the story of a house designed for both private life and entertaining.

How much did Selena Gomez pay for the Encino home?

Architectural Digest reported in 2020 that Gomez bought the property for $4.9 million. Realtor.com later reported the purchase price as $4.89 million. The home reportedly sold for $5.4 million in 2026, according to Architectural Digest; Realtor.com gave the more exact reported figure of $5.399 million. Those are reported transaction amounts, not a measure of the owner’s profit: renovation, carrying and transaction costs are not established in the cited accounts.

The property sits in Encino’s Rancho enclave, behind a long gated driveway. Architectural Digest’s 2020 account describes the driveway as ending at a cul-de-sac, keeping the house largely out of view from the street.

What does the house look like inside?

A dramatic, skylit living room

Architectural Digest describes a living room lit from above by a skylight, with a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace rising past an upstairs balcony. The soaring fireplace and open vertical sightline give the central room a more dramatic scale than a conventional single-story lounge.

The kitchen where Selena + Chef was filmed

The kitchen pairs marble counters with a brick stove. Architectural Digest reports that it served as the setting for three seasons of Selena + Chef. The filming connection makes the room the home’s most recognizable space for viewers, while its stone and brick details give it a substantial, built-in feel.

Bedrooms and additional rooms

Architectural Digest reports six bedrooms, with the primary suite on the main level and five other bedrooms upstairs. The Beverly Hills Estates listing describes an upstairs second primary suite and four additional suites. The accounts frame the upper level differently, so the suite arrangement is best treated as a description from the listing rather than a settled room-by-room plan.

Beyond the bedrooms, the sources describe a recording studio or vocal booth, office or workspace, gym and massage room. The brokerage listing also includes a lower-level kitchen and glam room—spaces that extend the house beyond its entertaining areas into work, fitness and personal-care uses.

What is outside?

The backyard centers on a pool and spa. The Beverly Hills Estates listing adds a cabana with a bar, a fire pit and an outdoor dining area, along with a waterfall and stream flowing into the pool and spa. These details come from the property listing; the brokerage notes that its property information is drawn from public records, MLS or other sources and is not verified by the brokerage.

Was Selena Gomez’s home previously owned by Tom Petty?

Yes. Architectural Digest reports that Tom Petty and Jane Benyo custom-built the Encino residence in 1989 and owned it until 2017. Its 2020 account says the home replaced a Tudor-style mansion destroyed in an arson-set fire. Gomez acquired the property in 2020, and the 2026 sale marked a later chapter in the home’s celebrity ownership.

How large is the property?

Architectural Digest and the Beverly Hills Estates listing put the house at approximately 11,483 square feet; Architectural Digest also describes a 0.87-acre lot. The listing reports a 37,752-square-foot lot. Published bathroom counts do not agree: Architectural Digest reports 10, while Realtor.com reports 8.5, so a single unqualified total would be misleading.
