Burn Notice star Jeffrey Donovan met Michelle Woods while he was finishing a job, according to a later account of their relationship. They became engaged in 2012 and married that August in Santa Barbara, California. Donovan has also spoken publicly about the family they built and their life in Colorado.
How Jeffrey Donovan met Michelle Woods
Donovan recalled meeting his future wife while he was finishing a job. In a March 29, 2026, report, Fox News Digital quoted him saying: “I met my future wife while I was finishing a job, and she was from Colorado, and once I started visiting there, I never stopped.” The report places their meeting in 2011.
That job was Burn Notice, the series in which Donovan played Michael Westen. Fox News described it as his breakout role and reported that he starred in the show for seven seasons. Looking back in a 2017 interview with Build, Donovan said the demanding job had an unexpected personal consequence: “I look back at if I didn’t take that job, and I wasn’t there, I would never have met my future wife and had my three beautiful children.” Fox News quoted that recollection in its 2026 story.
Engagement and wedding
E! News reported on June 25, 2012, that Donovan had proposed to Woods, describing her at the time as his longtime girlfriend and a model. The outlet also noted public appearances and charity triathlons they had taken part in together; those reports offer a glimpse of their public life then, not a complete account of their relationship.

A Boston Globe article published the following month said Donovan was set to marry Woods and described her as a model and actress. Fox News later reported that the wedding took place in August 2012 in a small ceremony in Santa Barbara, California. The exact wedding day is not established in these reports.
The family’s life in Colorado
Fox News reported in March 2026 that Donovan and Woods have three children: Claire, Lucas and Ethan, and are raising them in Colorado. Donovan has described the state as home. “It’s an incredible state and, I’m raising my children there, and we’re never leaving,” he said, as quoted by Fox News.

In the same report, Donovan also spoke about the experience of parenting there, saying, “I find it less challenging in Colorado, which plays to my talent level of raising kids,” and, “If it’s not hard raising kids in Colorado, then that’s where I wanna be.” Those remarks share his perspective on raising children in the state; they do not establish details about the family’s private routines.
