Nist later said location was not the only issue: after a courtship compressed by filming, she felt they did not truly know each other. Their later explanations differed, so there is no single mutually agreed private cause on the public record.
What they said when they announced the divorce
Turner and Nist met on ABC’s The Golden Bachelor and married in the televised special The Golden Wedding, which aired January 4, 2024. On April 12, about three months later, they announced their divorce in an interview on Good Morning America. Turner said they had held heart-to-heart conversations and closely considered their situation, especially their living arrangements and family ties. He said they believed living apart was best for each of their happiness. CBS News reported on the announcement.

Turner said, “The thing that strikes me the most in our conversations, it’s been how dedicated both of us are to our families.” He added, “I think both of us feel like it’s best for the happiness of each of us to live apart.” Those were their stated reasons at the time, not a detailed account of every factor in the marriage.
Where they considered living
In an April 15 follow-up, ABC reported that they had looked at homes in South Carolina and considered New Jersey, but had not chosen a place to settle. The search had not produced the shared home base Nist wanted. She said, “sometimes things don’t go the way you planned and that’s okay.” ABC’s follow-up includes Nist’s response and the house search.

Why Nist later said the explanation was bigger than location
In November 2024, Nist clarified that geography alone did not explain the split. Speaking about the “location thing,” she said, “It’s not just the location thing.” She also said that four weeks was not enough time to really know someone: “You really can’t know someone in four weeks. I’ll just say that. That’s all I can say.”
Nist described wanting an established home together and said differences became apparent after filming ended. Her comments identify her perspective, but she did not publicly specify those differences. The Miami Herald reported on her November podcast comments.

How their later accounts differed
In later comments, Turner discussed family commitments, the difficulty of finding a shared home, career expectations, and his cancer diagnosis. Nist said the diagnosis was not a factor in her decision and reiterated that the breakup involved more than location. These are separate accounts from the former spouses; they do not establish a shared, definitive explanation for the divorce. TV Insider’s October 2025 retrospective summarizes their later remarks.
