Spoilers for “Familiar by Thy Side,” episode 6 of Agatha All Along. Episode 5 ends with Teen saying, “I’m Billy Maximoff.” Episode 6 explains what that means: Billy Maximoff’s soul came to inhabit William Kaplan’s body after a fatal crash, joining two distinct lives in one person.
Who is Teen in Agatha All Along?
Teen is Billy Maximoff, Wanda’s son. The series makes the name reveal at the end of episode 5; the sixth episode supplies the origin story and shows how Billy’s connection to William Kaplan complicates his identity. The episode’s flashback does not depict William and Billy as the same person: William dies, and Billy awakens in William’s body. The Los Angeles Times and TVLine likewise distinguish the episode 5 reveal from episode 6’s explanation.
How did Billy become William Kaplan?
The bar mitzvah and the sigil
The flashback begins at William Kaplan’s bar mitzvah in Eastview. Lilia Calderu reads William’s palm and sees a life split in two. Before the family leaves, she slips a silencing sigil into his jacket pocket. Its presence conceals Billy’s identity, though William’s family has no reason to understand what it means.
The crash and Billy’s awakening
On the drive home, alerts report that Wanda’s Westview hex is collapsing. The Kaplan family’s car crashes. William dies; in the show’s supernatural account, Billy Maximoff’s soul awakens in William’s body. The episode presents this as the point at which Billy’s life becomes bound to William’s, not as a real-world biological explanation.

Afterward, Billy has altered memories and abilities and tries to live as William. The sigil helps explain why his identity remains hidden. TheWrap’s interview with showrunner Jac Schaeffer discusses the episode’s identity story and its supernatural premise.
Why does Billy seek Agatha and the Witches’ Road?
Three years later, Billy investigates the Westview anomaly and works out that he is Wanda’s son. He is also searching for his missing brother, Tommy. That search drives him toward Agatha and, eventually, the Witches’ Road: Billy wants answers about his own past, but his goal is to find Tommy.

The episode revisits Billy’s first encounter with Agatha from his perspective, reframing the earlier meeting in light of what he has learned. It then returns to the present-day Road. Agatha acknowledges that she recognized Billy, and he continues with her because the quest may help him reach Tommy. The showrunner’s comments provide context for the scene, but Schaeffer describes some of Agatha’s perceptions and actions as open to interpretation rather than settling every detail as fact.

Wiccan is Billy Kaplan’s superhero alias in Marvel comics, where he was introduced as a member of the Young Avengers. The series adapts his origin to the MCU’s Westview events and the collision of Billy’s and William’s lives. The comic connection is useful context, but episode 6’s main concern is the television version of Billy’s identity and his search for Tommy. ComicBook.com discusses the relationship between the show’s backstory and the comics.
