Aerosmith announced on August 2, 2024, that it was retiring from touring because Steven Tyler could not fully recover from a vocal injury. The decision ended the band’s Peace Out farewell tour, which had been postponed after Tyler reported vocal cord damage in September 2023. Joe Perry later suggested a one-off show might still happen, but no performance was confirmed.
Why did Aerosmith retire from touring?
In its August 2, 2024 announcement, Aerosmith said that a full recovery from Tyler’s vocal injury was not possible. The band wrote: “We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision – as a band of brothers – to retire from the touring stage.” The statement announced retirement from touring; it did not say the band was breaking up.

What happened to Steven Tyler’s voice?
Tyler said he damaged his vocal cords during a September 2023 performance and then experienced bleeding. In a statement reported by the Associated Press on September 12, 2023, he said: “I’m heartbroken to say I have received strict doctor’s orders not to sing for the next thirty days.” He added that the injury had led to bleeding and that the band needed to postpone dates.
The announcement gives the band’s account of the injury and its effect on touring; it does not provide a detailed medical diagnosis or prognosis beyond saying that full recovery was not possible.

Was the Peace Out farewell tour canceled?
Yes. Aerosmith first postponed the remaining Peace Out dates after Tyler’s injury. The band had played three performances before postponing the rest, according to The Guardian’s August 3, 2024 report. When the band announced its retirement from touring in August 2024, the remaining dates were canceled. The Associated Press described Peace Out as a planned 40-date run.
Are Aerosmith tickets refundable?
The band’s 2024 announcement said tickets bought through Ticketmaster would be refunded automatically, with no action required from those purchasers. Anyone who bought tickets through a resale site, including SeatGeek, StubHub, or Vivid Seats, was told to contact the seller or point of purchase. That was the guidance issued with the cancellation; for an unresolved claim, check the seller’s current policy.

Could Aerosmith still play one final show?
In comments published by MusicRadar on August 14, 2025, guitarist Joe Perry said, “I would bet that there’s an Aerosmith show left.” He also mentioned talk of a documentary and said Tyler did not want to tour and could not tour.
Perry’s comments floated a possibility, not a scheduled event or a reversal of the band’s 2024 touring-retirement announcement. The report gave no date or confirmed performance.
