The Gorge is an Apple Original thriller directed by Scott Derrickson, known for Doctor Strange, and written by Zach Dean. Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy play two operatives ordered to guard opposite sides of a classified gorge. They form a bond from a distance, then have to work together when a threat emerges from inside it. Apple released the film globally on Apple TV+ on February 14, 2025.
What is The Gorge about?
Levi and Drasa are highly trained operatives assigned to separate guard towers on opposite sides of a vast, highly classified gorge. Their job is to protect the world from an undisclosed danger below. The two begin communicating and form a connection across the landscape; when the threat inside the gorge becomes apparent, they must leave their posts and face it together. Apple’s official synopsis keeps the nature of that danger mysterious, so the premise is best approached without expecting a full explanation upfront.

Scott Derrickson directed the film, and Zach Dean wrote it. The lead roles are Levi, played by Miles Teller, and Drasa, played by Anya Taylor-Joy. Sigourney Weaver plays Bartholomew, while Sope Dirisu plays J.D. Apple’s US title listing gives the principal cast and character names.
What kind of movie is it?
Apple categorizes The Gorge as a thriller. The Associated Press, in a review published February 13, 2025, described it as combining thriller, science-fiction, horror and romance elements. That broader mix is a critical characterization rather than Apple’s official genre label. The story’s setup—two isolated sentries, a forbidden landscape and an unknown danger—also leaves room for suspense and a developing relationship.
