Jason Momoa plays Lobo in Supergirl, which DC described as in theaters in its June 24, 2026 article. If that brought you to the comics, you can start with one story: Lobo: The Last Czarnian. You do not need to read every appearance in order. DC’s “Get to Know! Lobo” collection also points to two alternatives, depending on whether you want surreal comedy or an outsized mass-murderer premise.
Start with Lobo: The Last Czarnian
Of DC’s three titles marked “Start Here,” The Last Czarnian is the clearest first read. DC’s synopsis introduces Lobo as the sole surviving Czarnian after he annihilated his own people, then sets him on an escort contract involving another survivor. That gives a new reader the character’s premise and a focused story without requiring a tour of his earlier appearances.

Choose this if you want a bounty-hunter setup with origin-flavored context. It is the most direct route into Lobo’s world, rather than a claim that it is objectively the best Lobo comic.
Choose a different starting point for a different tone
Lobo’s Back for surreal comedy
DC’s summary describes Lobo being reincarnated as a woman and a squirrel. That broad, deliberately absurd premise makes Lobo’s Back a better fit if you want the character at his most bizarre, rather than a straightforward introduction.

Lobo Unbound for an extreme character premise
In Lobo Unbound, Lobo tries to claim the title of greatest mass murderer. It is another official “Start Here” option, but its hook is an escalation of the character’s notorious violence, not an essential step in a reading sequence.
These three suggestions come from DC’s Lobo collection. Think of them as different entry points: a bounty-hunter story, surreal comedy, or a deliberately extreme premise.

Want Lobo’s connection to Superman? Read House of Brainiac
If your interest is the Superman side of Lobo’s story, look to the 2024 House of Brainiac crossover. DC said Superman: House of Brainiac Special #1 reveals Brainiac’s secret history with Lobo and Czarnia, Lobo’s homeworld. The larger crossover unfolds across Action Comics, Superman, and other titles, so the special is the most targeted place to begin for that connection.
This is a crossover route, not a prerequisite for understanding the three solo-story starting points. DC’s announcement also mentioned DC Universe Infinite as a digital subscription platform featuring Lobo stories; current availability and terms can vary. Read DC’s announcement.

Use a reading order only if you want the broader history
You do not need a complete chronology to begin. If you want to follow major Lobo storylines across publishing eras, the ComicBookWire Lobo reading order is a supplementary guide. Its author says it covers major storylines rather than every Lobo appearance and groups stories by era; it is not an official definitive order.
Physical books and digital reading
For a physical copy, Lobo: The Last Czarnian is the story title to search for. The cited sources establish its place in DC’s entry-point collection and point to collected editions, but do not confirm current print availability, a particular edition, or marketplace stock. Check the edition details before buying.

DC Universe Infinite hosts DC’s official Lobo collection, but the sources do not establish current regional availability or subscription pricing. Check the service directly for access where you live.
