Sophie Segreti thought Savannah Louie would be voted out at Survivor 49’s Final Seven. Instead, the vote was unanimous against her. In interviews after her elimination, Segreti said she had trusted her numbers logic and underestimated how deeply Sage Ahrens-Nichols resented her role in Jawan’s exit.
Why Sophie thought Savannah was the target
Segreti’s plan hinged on her belief that Sage and Kristina disliked Savannah enough to vote her out. She also saw Savannah as a useful challenge shield: as long as Savannah was in the game, Segreti thought other players would have an obvious alternative target. If Savannah left, Segreti expected to become the next clear threat.
In her Dec. 4, 2025 interview with Nick Caruso for TVLine, Segreti said, “I was definitely super confident that Savannah was gonna get the boot.” She believed voting Savannah made sense as a game move, and expected the numbers to go her way.
Why she chose the Savannah and Rizo side
Segreti’s decision to vote out Jawan was based on where she thought she could get the better position. She preferred a foursome with Rizo, Savannah, and Soph to being at the bottom of a five-person group with Sage, Jawan, Steven, and Kristina. TV Insider’s Dec. 4 interview with Segreti describes her reasoning as a four-versus-three opportunity.

That calculation addressed immediate numbers, but it also depended on how the people around her would respond. Segreti later acknowledged that she lacked a dependable number-one ally and had misread the relationships in the group.
How the vote turned against her
TVLine’s episode account reports that Sage shifted her target from Savannah to Sophie after feeling betrayed by Sophie’s choice to side with Savannah and Rizo against Jawan. The account says Rizo then portrayed Sophie as both a challenge threat and someone loyal to no one, a pitch Kristina and Steven accepted. Segreti expected Savannah to leave and was blindsided by the unanimous vote against her.

This sequence is TVLine’s account of the episode, while the reasons Segreti gave for her own choices come from her post-vote interviews. Those perspectives help explain the reversal, but they do not establish that any one factor alone caused the vote.
What Segreti says she missed
In hindsight, Segreti said she had underestimated how hurt Sage was by Jawan’s elimination. She knew Sage and Jawan were close, but did not grasp how strongly that vote would affect Sage’s view of her. TVLine quoted Segreti acknowledging that she had a closer personal connection with Sage than with Jawan, yet voting Jawan out “really worked against me.” She said she should have done more damage control with Sage.

Speaking to Sharon Tharp for Men’s Journal on Dec. 5, 2025, Segreti put the misread plainly: “Watching it back… it’s Sage. I think I really pissed her off by getting out Jawan. I underestimated that.” Her later explanation reframes the Jawan vote as more than a numbers choice: it carried a relationship cost she had not properly accounted for.

Segreti described being confident in her read and then abruptly discovering she was the target. In her Dec. 4 interview with Kelli Boyle for TV Insider, she said, “Oh my God. I was stupidly confident. I was fully blindsided. I had no idea.”

She also told TVLine: “But yeah, I was truly surprised and it’s kind of crazy because it is such a quick whiplash from like, ‘Oh my God, I’m in this game,’ to, ‘I am standing in front of Jeff Probst and he is snuffing my torch, and I’m walking away.’” Her own hindsight was that comfort had made her overconfident: she trusted the expected Savannah vote without recognizing that Sage’s hurt and the group’s shifting loyalties had changed her position.
