What “Hallmark movie town” means here
Small towns that look like a Hallmark Christmas movie are a matter of atmosphere, not an official designation. The nine destinations below were named in a December 2019 Matador Network roundup republished by Visit Wilmington. The article described holiday scenery and traditions; it did not establish that Hallmark filmed there. Most towns in holiday movies are fictional, as the roundup itself noted.
The settings vary: New England historic streets, California coast and architecture, Southern light displays, a lakeside winter landscape, and a Delaware historic district. The seasonal descriptions below reflect that 2019 article, not verified current schedules.
Historic streets and classic New England holiday scenes
Stockbridge, Massachusetts
Stockbridge’s holiday image is closely associated with Norman Rockwell’s painting Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas. The 2019 roundup described decorated historic homes, carolers and an annual recreation of the scene during the second weekend of December. That timing is historical; check local event listings for current dates and arrangements.

Frostburg, Maryland
Brick-lined streets provide the backdrop for Frostburg’s Storybook Holiday. The 2019 account highlighted an elf parade, family activities and a sing-along at the Palace Theatre. Confirm which elements are scheduled in the year you plan to visit.
New Castle, Delaware
New Castle’s historic homes and churches lend themselves to a Dickensian holiday setting. The roundup pointed to Dickens-themed events and costumed Victorian activities. Treat those as examples of the town’s past seasonal programming, not a promise of a current event.
Coastal and waterfront settings
Pacific Grove, California
Pacific Grove’s Victorian bed-and-breakfast inns and residential streets offer a coastal alternative to a snowy main street. The 2019 roundup described inns decorated for Christmas and homes on Morse Drive decorated by residents. Neighborhood displays can vary from year to year, so verify access and any event details locally.

Monterey, California
Monterey brings historic adobe architecture together with holiday activity around the waterfront. The roundup singled out a lighted boat parade, but its description is not a current event confirmation. Consult local organizers for this season’s schedule and viewing information.

Mandeville, Louisiana
On the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain, Mandeville offers a Southern lakeside look, with oak-lined Lakeshore Drive, shops and seasonal events. The 2019 article described the atmosphere rather than a dated itinerary; check local listings for what is happening during your visit.
Lights, markets and a winter lake
McAdenville, North Carolina
Known as “Christmastown, USA” in the 2019 roundup, McAdenville was described with a lake, illuminated trees and a large seasonal light display. The article reported 832 residents and more than 300,000 cars visiting the lights in most years. Those are historical figures attributed to Matador Network in 2019, not independently confirmed current counts.

Anderson, South Carolina
The roundup described a Saturday Christmas market and a drive-through light display. It reported that the display covered 45 acres, a 2019 secondary-source figure that should not be treated as current without confirmation from the event organizer. Check current event information for dates, access and any visitor requirements.
Cooperstown, New York
Cooperstown’s visual appeal comes from snowy views around Otsego Lake and seasonal activities at Pioneer Park and the Farmers’ Museum. The 2019 roundup offers a sense of the setting, but not a current calendar or guarantee of snow. Check the venues’ schedules and local conditions before making plans.
Want a real Hallmark filming location instead?
For documented filming sites, look to Connecticut rather than assuming the nine towns above appeared onscreen. Travel + Leisure’s 2025 article identified Hartford locations connected with One Royal Holiday and A Holiday in Harlem; towns named for Holiday for Heroes included Stonington, Norwich, Mystic, Colchester, Waterford and New London; and North Haven, Hamden and Branford were associated with Romance at Reindeer Lodge. The Connecticut Christmas Movie Trail provides a route-planning option for visiting locations.

An Associated Press report dated December 14, 2025, also covered the trail and fans visiting filming sites, including Wethersfield. It reported at least 22 holiday films shot in Connecticut. The same report’s figures of a 53-person tour and a sellout in two weeks describe one tour, not general attendance or demand.
Pennsylvania offers another kind of comparison: its official tourism roundup, published October 18, 2025, says snowy scenes for Love the Coopers were filmed in Ligonier’s Diamond Park and describes holiday events in Canonsburg, Gettysburg, Indiana, Skippack Village and Kennett Square. These are separate examples, not evidence that the nine towns in this article are Hallmark sets.
How to choose a town for your trip
- For a classic historic-street scene: consider Stockbridge, Frostburg or New Castle.
- For coastal architecture or waterfront atmosphere: look at Pacific Grove, Monterey or Mandeville.
- For lights and holiday crowds: McAdenville and Anderson are the picks described for displays, though current dates and details need confirmation.
- For a lakeside winter setting: Cooperstown is the roundup’s choice, but snow is weather-dependent.
- For verified movie locations: use the Connecticut Christmas Movie Trail and confirm individual sites before visiting.
Before booking, check official town, venue or event-organizer pages for the current year’s dates, hours, access rules and any changes. A festive reputation is not the same as a guaranteed annual schedule.
