He was describing openness to future opportunities, not announcing a current project. He also linked that openness to a longer-term ambition: gaining enough experience to produce something himself.
What was the interview, and when was it published?
Hamna Zubair interviewed Khan for Dawn’s Images / Dawn Icon. Dawn says an abridged version appeared on 5 February 2017; Scroll republished the interview on 8 February 2017 under the headline “The Fawad Khan interview: ‘Wherever the wind blows me, I’ll go’.” The conversation covered his family, acting work in India and Pakistan, choosing roles, Pakistani screen storytelling, and future ambitions.
Its references to India–Pakistan tensions and difficulty promoting Ae Dil Hai Mushkil describe the period in which the interview appeared. The conversation is a historical record of Khan’s views and plans then, not a current update.
What did Khan mean by “Wherever the wind blows me, I’ll go”?
The interviewer asked what avenues outside Pakistan he was exploring, given that acting in India was off the table “at least for the near future.” Khan replied, “Wherever the wind blows me, I’ll go!” In context, the line expressed willingness to see where opportunities led; it did not identify a destination or confirm a particular role.

What did he say he learned from working in Bollywood?
Khan distinguished between production organization and acting. He recalled that, while working on the set of Khoobsurat, he saw a team analyze daily costs. Observing that practice made the importance of planning especially clear to him.

How did he choose roles and manage projects?
Khan said he discussed scripts and ideas with his managers and his wife, weighing their pros and cons together. What did he want to see in Pakistani screen stories?
Khan called for greater diversity in Pakistani screen content and more stories set in rural Pakistan. He was explicit that this was his opinion, not a claim to speak for the whole industry. As he put it: “I also think we could do more work set in rural Pakistan. That’s us, there’s nothing paindu about us. We should own our culture.” His point was that rural life and culture should be treated as part of Pakistan’s own stories, rather than dismissed.

The conversation mentioned a possible television return, a Bilal Lashari film, and a prospective Alamgir biopic. They were plans or possibilities discussed at the time. The interview itself does not verify what ultimately happened with them, so they should not be read as confirmed current projects.
