The Times attributed this statement to the LAPD: “The Honda continued eastbound failing to stop, identify self, or render aid as required by law.” Responding paramedics pronounced Kurtz dead at the scene. ABC7 also reported the collision near Ventura Boulevard and Corbin Avenue and the arrest that followed.
Who was arrested, and what is known about the case?
Contemporary reports identified the person arrested as 18-year-old Nathon Jaimes, who was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run causing death. The CBS Los Angeles report said he was released on $30,000 bond and had a court date scheduled for September 13, 2024. These details describe the initial arrest status; an arrest and scheduled court date do not establish guilt or the outcome of a case.

The Los Angeles Superior Court explains that criminal cases may be searched through its Criminal Index. The reviewed public information did not establish a case-specific disposition for Jaimes. No final court outcome should be inferred from the 2024 arrest reports.
