Keeper is a cloud-based password and secrets manager, not a documentary or physical security device. It stores passwords, passkeys and other sensitive information in an encrypted digital vault, with plans for personal, family, business and privileged-access use. Whether it is a good fit depends on which features your plan includes and how much you value its sharing, monitoring and administrative tools.
What is Keeper?
Keeper is a software platform from Keeper Security. Its consumer product centers on a private digital vault for passwords and personal information. The feature set includes password and passkey storage, autofill, secure sharing, one-time sharing and an authenticator for time-based one-time password (TOTP) codes. Keeper also offers Security Audit scoring and optional BreachWatch alerts for credentials found in breach data. Keeper’s feature page describes the available capabilities; exact availability can depend on the plan.
The platform extends beyond personal password storage. Keeper Secrets Manager is aimed at infrastructure secrets such as SSH keys, API keys and certificates, while business and enterprise offerings add administrative and privileged-access capabilities.
How does Keeper protect a vault?
Keeper describes its model as zero-knowledge: the provider says vault data is encrypted so that it cannot read customers’ stored information. Its security page says Keeper uses AES-256 encryption and elliptic-curve cryptography. These are vendor descriptions of the service’s design, not a guarantee that an account is immune to phishing, weak master passwords, compromised devices or other risks.
#1 Best Overall
- ✅ PROTECT ONLINE ACCOUNTS – A password manager, two-factor security key, and secure communication token in one, OnlyKey can keep your accounts safe even if your computer or a website is compromised. OnlyKey is open source, verified, and trustworthy.
- ✅ UNIVERSALLY SUPPORTED – Works with all websites including Twitter, Facebook, GitHub, and Google. Onlykey supports multiple methods of two-factor authentication including FIDO2 / U2F, Yubico OTP, TOTP, Challenge-response.
- ✅ PORTABLE PROTECTION – Extremely durable, waterproof, and tamper resistant design allows you to take your OnlyKey with you everywhere.
- ✅ PIN PROTECTED – The PIN used to unlock OnlyKey is entered directly on it. This means that if this device is stolen, data remains secure, after 10 failed attempts to unlock all data is securely erased.
- ✅ EASY LOG IN –No need to remember multiple passwords because by plugging OnlyKey to your computer, it automatically inputs your username and password. It works with Windows, Mac OS, Linux, or Chromebook, just press a button to login securely!
Consumer and family users authenticate with a master password and can use biometric authentication. Enterprise users can also use single sign-on (SSO) with elliptic-curve encryption. For any password manager, account security still depends on choosing a strong, unique master password, protecting access to the email and devices tied to the account, and using multifactor authentication where available.
What can you do with Keeper?
Store and use passwords and passkeys
Keeper can hold login credentials and passkeys, then help fill them in on supported devices and sites. This can reduce password reuse and the need to remember every login, though the convenience you get depends on the apps, browsers and devices you use.

- POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The Security Key C NFC is the essential physical passkey for protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts.
- WORKS WITH 1000+ ACCOUNTS: Compatible with Google, Microsoft, and Apple. A single Security Key C NFC secures 100 of your favorite accounts, including email, password managers, and more.
- FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your Security Key C NFC via USB-C and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC) to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required.
- TRUSTED PASSKEY TECHNOLOGY: Uses the latest passkey standards (FIDO2/WebAuthn & FIDO U2F) but does not support One-Time Passwords. For complex needs, check out the YubiKey 5 Series.
- BUILT TO LAST: Made from tough, waterproof, and crush-resistant materials. Manufactured in Sweden and programmed in the USA with the highest security standards.
Share credentials
Secure sharing is available for giving another person access to selected vault items; one-time sharing is designed for a temporary handoff. Sharing a vault item is more controlled than sending a password in plain text, but users should still share only what the recipient needs and review access afterward.
Generate verification codes and review exposure
The built-in TOTP feature can generate verification codes for accounts that support authenticator apps. Security Audit scores vault practices, while optional BreachWatch alerts users when stored credentials appear in breach data. Breach alerts are a signal to change affected passwords promptly, not a guarantee that every exposed credential will be detected.

Is Keeper suitable for a business?
Keeper’s business and enterprise tools are designed for organizations that need to manage access centrally rather than simply share personal passwords. Administrators can manage roles and teams, apply policies, use shared folders and review audit or compliance reporting. SIEM integration and Secrets Manager address monitoring and infrastructure-secret workflows; privileged-access capabilities serve broader access-management needs.
Keeper lists support for compliance areas including FIPS 140-3, HIPAA, FINRA, SOC and ITAR. That does not mean subscribing alone makes an organization compliant: suitability depends on the specific service configuration, controls, contracts and the organization’s obligations. Keeper also says enterprise users can keep personal and work vaults separate. Review the business offering and enterprise offering against your requirements.

How should you compare Keeper with other password managers?
There is no useful single winner without knowing your needs and the current plan prices. Compare Keeper with services such as 1Password or Bitwarden on the same practical criteria, using current product documentation and plan terms rather than assuming that every feature is included in every tier.
- Security design: Compare encryption claims, account recovery options and how each service handles access to vault data.
- Everyday use: Check passkey support, autofill quality and compatibility with your browsers, mobile devices and apps.
- Sharing: Look at family and team sharing controls, temporary sharing and how easily access can be removed.
- Breach monitoring: Compare whether monitoring is included or sold separately, and what alerts actually cover.
- Administration: For organizations, weigh policy controls, roles, audits, compliance reporting, SIEM integrations and privileged-access features.
- Recovery and support: Understand what happens if a user loses a master password or device, and what assistance is available under the relevant plan.
- Total cost: Add subscription fees and any separately priced monitoring or other add-ons for the people and capabilities you need.
Is Keeper worth considering?
Keeper is worth considering if you want a password manager that also supports passkeys, secure sharing and TOTP, or if a business needs centralized administration, secrets management or privileged-access features. Its zero-knowledge positioning and stated encryption approach are relevant security considerations, but they do not remove the need for safe account practices. Decide based on device compatibility, recovery and sharing needs, plan inclusions and the complete current subscription cost.
