If you want the highest-rated Christopher Walken film in Rotten Tomatoes’ profile snapshot accessed in 2026, start with Annie Hall (1977), listed at 97% on the Tomatometer. At the other end, Gigli (2003) is listed at 6%. Those figures rank films by critics’ aggregate ratings—not Walken’s performances—and the scores can change.
How this ranking works—and what “all” means
Rotten Tomatoes’ editorial guide orders Christopher Walken movies by Tomatometer, a measure of critics’ reviews. Its guide begins at #88, so it is a curated ranking, not a complete chronological filmography or a definitive verdict on Walken’s acting. A film’s overall score also does not tell you how large or prominent his role is.
The 2026 Rotten Tomatoes profile snapshot identifies Annie Hall as Walken’s highest-rated film and Gigli as his lowest-rated. The source does not establish their numeric positions in the separate editorial guide, so the table ranks these two only by the reported profile scores. It does not supply enough individual rank-and-score entries to reproduce the guide as a complete 88-film list.
| Order by reported Tomatometer | Film | Year | Score in the 2026 profile snapshot | What the figure tells you |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Annie Hall | 1977 | 97% | Highest-rated film on Walken’s Rotten Tomatoes profile snapshot. |
| 2 | Gigli | 2003 | 6% | Lowest-rated film on the same profile snapshot. |
These are critics’ scores, not audience ratings; Rotten Tomatoes displays the two separately. They measure the films’ aggregate reception, not the quality of Walken’s individual performance. The profile values are a dated snapshot, not permanent scores.

Which Christopher Walken movies should you watch first?
Choose by genre and what you want from a Walken role rather than treating one film score as a performance ranking. The following are useful starting points among the films identified in the cited career and filmography sources; their inclusion here does not imply a particular Tomatometer position.
For a career landmark: The Deer Hunter (1978)
Walken won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for playing Nick. It is the clearest first choice if you want a major dramatic role tied to a defining career achievement.
Rank #2
For comedy: Annie Hall (1977)
It is the highest-rated film on the 2026 Rotten Tomatoes profile snapshot, at 97%. That makes it a strong critics’ score-based starting point, though the score reflects the film overall rather than Walken alone.
For crime and cult-film staples: Pulp Fiction and True Romance
Both appear among Walken’s notable credits in the Television Academy biography. They offer crime-film starting points for viewers who want to see him in the company of large ensembles; a film’s overall standing should not be mistaken for the size of his part.
Rank #3
For a later-career dramatic and comic range: Catch Me If You Can, Hairspray and Seven Psychopaths
These credits show his work across crime drama and comedy. They are useful choices if you want to move beyond his earlier dramatic roles and compare very different kinds of screen presence.
For family viewing and fantasy: The Jungle Book
The film is among the later and genre-spanning titles named in the Rotten Tomatoes and Television Academy material. It gives families a different entry point from Walken’s crime and dramatic films.
Rank #4
Why there is no single complete “all movies” count
Different filmography sources cover different kinds of credits. The AFI Catalog profile shows 57 filmography titles within its catalog scope, with cast roles and years; its collection is framed as The First 100 Years, 1893–1993, while some later titles are presented separately. That is a bounded catalog, not a count of every film Walken made.
The Television Academy describes Walken as having appeared in more than 100 films and television shows. That combined figure includes television and therefore cannot be used as a movie-only total. The sources do not settle a universal count covering theatrical features, television films, shorts, cameos, voice roles and uncredited appearances.

Walken’s career spans six decades, and his credits range across drama, comedy, crime, animation and prominent villain roles. That breadth is part of why a critic-score list and a performance-focused watchlist answer different questions.
Quick Recap
How to read the rankings before choosing a film
- Tomatometer is not an audience score. Rotten Tomatoes reports critics’ and audience ratings separately; do not combine them or treat one as the other.
- A film score is not a performance score. The rating covers the film, and a highly rated ensemble film may give Walken less screen time than a lower-rated title.
- Career importance is a separate measure. The Deer Hunter matters as an award landmark even though that fact is not a Tomatometer ranking.
- Use the source’s scope carefully. The AFI Catalog’s count and the Television Academy’s combined screen-credit figure answer different questions.
- Scores can move. Treat the 97% and 6% figures as values shown in the profile snapshot accessed in 2026, not fixed ratings.
