If you want a warm, character-led comedy built around a Mexican resort, its staff and two generations of ambition, Acapulco may be the Apple TV show you’ll enjoy more than Ted Lasso. “Better” is a matter of taste, not an objective ranking: the two series offer different settings and stories. Acapulco has four seasons and a designated series finale, making it a complete story to start now.
What is Acapulco about?
The bilingual comedy follows Máximo and Las Colinas, a resort in Acapulco. It moves between two periods: in the present, an older Máximo tries to restore the hotel; in the earlier story, his younger self works his way up through its ranks. Apple’s season-four synopsis places that earlier timeline in 1986, when a rival hotel threatens Las Colinas’s standing among Acapulco’s best resorts. Apple TV Press’s official series page identifies Eugenio Derbez as a star and executive producer. Austin Winsberg, Eduardo Cisneros and Jason Shuman created the series, with Sam Laybourne as showrunner.
Why might you prefer it to Ted Lasso?
The useful comparison is about what you want from a comedy, not which show is universally better. Ted Lasso is the Apple comedy reference point; Acapulco centers on a hotel workplace and a bilingual story rooted in a Mexican resort. If you’d rather follow staff and service-industry ambitions across generations than spend time in a sports-club setting, Acapulco may be the better match for you.
The title’s “so much better” is a strong recommendation, not a measured verdict. Apple’s official series information establishes the premise and format, but does not establish a quality ranking between the shows. And Ted Lasso is not simply a finished-series alternative: in January 2026, Apple announced that its fourth season would debut in summer 2026. Apple’s season-four announcement makes that status clear.

Is Acapulco finished?
Yes. Apple lists four seasons, and season four has a designated series finale, “Never Gonna Give You Up.” Apple dates the finale September 17, 2025, and lists its runtime as 35 minutes. That makes Acapulco a completed series rather than a show awaiting another season. Apple’s episode listing is for Brazil; its regional price and catalog presentation should not be assumed to apply elsewhere.
Where can you watch Acapulco?
Apple’s official route is to stream the series on Apple TV. Apple has described availability across Apple devices and a range of other screens, including popular smart TVs, Roku, Amazon Fire TV devices, Chromecast with Google TV, PlayStation and Xbox. You do not need to buy a particular device just to follow the show. Apple’s 2024 availability announcement lists those platforms; check Apple TV in your country for current access and terms.

What makes the series notable?
Acapulco brings a bilingual format and a Mexican resort setting to a story about work, ambition and the ties between an older man and his younger self. Its renewal for a fourth season was also a milestone for star and executive producer Eugenio Derbez, who said: “It’s rare for shows centered on Latino stories to make it this far, and that makes this milestone even more meaningful.” Apple published the quote in its August 2024 renewal announcement.
Apple also reported that the series received nine Imagen Award nominations in 2024, including nominations for Best Comedy and Best Music Supervision for Film or Television. Those were nominations, not wins. Apple’s announcement gives the count and categories.
