Common Denominator is described as one of his first original songs; One Time was his first official single. Those are different milestones, and neither source establishes the first song he ever wrote or recorded.
Was “Common Denominator” Justin Bieber’s very first song?
It is best described as one of Bieber’s early original songs, not definitively the first song he ever wrote. Teen Vogue’s retrospective calls “Common Denominator” “one of Justin’s first original songs” while placing it among videos from his early online years. That wording supports an early-song designation, but not a precise first.

“First song” can mean several things: the first song written, first performed, first uploaded, first studio recording, or first commercially released. The available sources do not identify a first composition, first recording, or first performance, nor do they give an exact first-upload date for “Common Denominator.”
How does “One Time” fit in?
“One Time” was a separate career milestone: Bieber’s first official single. A subtitle transcript of the documentary Never Say Never recounts that it was selected as the first single. The transcript is a third-party source, so it is more cautious to treat this as secondary evidence than as a directly verified official transcript.

|---|---|---|
| “Common Denominator” | Teen Vogue describes it as one of Bieber’s first original songs; it appears on My World. | That it was the first song he wrote, performed, uploaded, or recorded. |
| “One Time” | The documentary subtitle transcript identifies it as his first official single. | That it was his first-ever song. |
Where “Common Denominator” appeared
Universal Music Germany’s My World listing places “Common Denominator” at track eight. Published October 28, 2009, the listing said the album was due November 13. This confirms its place on the album; it does not date when Bieber wrote, recorded, or first performed the song.
Bieber’s early online presence included both performances of other artists’ songs and original material. Teen Vogue’s retrospective groups “Common Denominator” with early videos and identifies several surrounding performances as covers, a useful reminder that an early performance video is not necessarily evidence of an original song.
