Spoilers for the ending of Deadpool & Wolverine.

The surprise character who makes the strongest impression in Deadpool & Wolverine is Peter, played by Rob Delaney. He is not a superhero or a multiverse spectacle; his unflappable normality is exactly what makes his brief appearances so effective. That is a personal reading of the film, not an official or universal audience verdict.
Who is Peter in Deadpool & Wolverine?
Peter is Deadpool’s mild-mannered friend and former X-Force recruit, played by Rob Delaney. Disney’s cast announcement lists Delaney among the film’s cast, and its Hall H coverage identifies him as Peter. The movie opened theatrically in the United States and Canada on July 26, 2024, according to Disney’s cast and release announcement.
Spoilers: What does Peter do in the film?
Peter’s role is modest, but his timing matters. In Chris Smith’s August 8, 2024 BGR commentary, Peter’s part in the confrontation involving Deadpool variants and his conversation with Hunter B-15 near the end are singled out as the moments that make him stand out. That conversation helps establish that the Deadpool who stopped Cassandra Nova belongs to his own reality. The scene gives Peter a useful role in the plot without turning him into another superpowered combatant.
Why Peter’s small role works
His normality is the joke
Deadpool’s world runs on spectacle, self-aware jokes, and increasingly extreme threats. Peter arrives with none of that energy. His calm, ordinary presence provides contrast, and the contrast itself becomes funny: he can occupy the same chaotic story without behaving as if he needs to compete with it.

He is more than a punchline
Peter’s contribution around the variants and the ending means he is not simply a familiar face dropped in for recognition. He helps move a plot point along while remaining recognizably Peter. The film’s best use of him is not to pretend he is secretly the most powerful person in the room; it is to let his composure matter in a situation built to overwhelm everyone else.
The film makes room for warmth
Director Shawn Levy described the movie as combining expected comedy and action with warmth rooted in the story of Deadpool and Wolverine’s unlikely friendship. In a July 25, 2024 Disney interview, Levy said, “I know people are expecting the funny; they’re going to get it. They’re expecting the action; they’re going to get it.” He added that the story between the two leads creates “a warmth” people may not expect. Peter’s understated presence fits that broader tonal balance: a supporting character can be funny without needing to turn every beat into a gag.

Peter’s place in the movie—and what this praise means
Peter is not the film’s lead, and the case for him rests on a small amount of screen time rather than a major character arc. The claim that he is the surprise standout comes from one critic’s viewing and interpretation, not an official ranking or a measured consensus among fans. Disney reported that the film made $444.1 million worldwide, including $211 million domestically, during its opening weekend in July 2024; those are opening-weekend figures, not its current total, as specified in Disney’s July 28, 2024 report.
For viewers who enjoy supporting characters that puncture the scale of a blockbuster simply by being themselves, Peter is a compelling reason to pay attention beyond Deadpool and Wolverine. His appeal is the contrast: a very ordinary man whose calm presence proves useful in a very extraordinary mess.
