Amazon and Crystal Dynamics revealed two new Tomb Raider games in December 2025: Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a reimagining of Lara Croft’s 1996 debut, and Tomb Raider: Catalyst, a new adventure set in Northern India. The original announcement gave them 2026 and 2027 release windows. Those windows are now out of date as a current schedule: Legacy of Atlantis is officially dated February 12, 2027, while a July 2026 report cited an Amazon Games executive indicating Catalyst may follow in 2028; the publisher reportedly had no timing update.
What are the two new Tomb Raider games?
The December 2025 reveal introduced two different projects, not two chapters in a single announced story. One revisits the series’ first game; the other sends Lara into a new adventure. Both are being developed by Crystal Dynamics, and Amazon’s announcement says Alix Wilton Regan voices Lara in each.
| Game | What it is | Setting and announced features | Platforms announced | Timing status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis | A reimagining of Lara Croft’s 1996 debut, co-developed by Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog using Unreal Engine 5. | Modernized gameplay, renewed environments and puzzles, and new surprises intended to honor the original’s spirit. | PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2. | Officially dated February 12, 2027. |
| Tomb Raider: Catalyst | A new adventure developed by Crystal Dynamics using Unreal Engine 5. | Lara travels across Northern India after a mythical cataclysm reveals ancient secrets and awakens guardian forces. The reveal described mountains, deserts, jungles, ruins, traversal, tombs, and puzzles. | PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam in the original announcement. | Originally given a 2027 window; a July 2026 report cited a 2028 indication, but said Amazon had no timing update. |
Amazon described Catalyst as featuring the largest world in the series to date. That is a promotional description from the reveal, not an independently measured comparison.
When does Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis come out?
Legacy of Atlantis is officially scheduled for February 12, 2027, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2, according to the official Tomb Raider product and preorder page. The December 2025 reveal had listed 2026; the dated product page supersedes that original window.

Is Tomb Raider: Catalyst still coming in 2027?
There is no basis to treat 2027 as a confirmed current release date. The original announcement assigned Catalyst a 2027 window. In July 2026, Gematsu reported that Amazon Games executive Jeffrey Gattis indicated the next Tomb Raider game would follow in 2028; the same report said Amazon Games had no update on release timing. That makes 2028 a reported indication, not a formally confirmed revised date or an official delay announcement. The game’s timing remains less certain than Legacy of Atlantis’s published date.

What the reveal establishes—and what it doesn’t
Crystal Dynamics Studio Creative Director Noah Hughes described the series as being about “adventure-fueled experiences that entertain, inspire, and empower audiences” in the studio’s December 11, 2025 announcement. Scot Amos, Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics, called the collaboration with Amazon Game Studios “truly transformative” in Amazon’s announcement. These are statements from the companies involved, not independent assessments of game quality.
The clearest confirmed distinction is structural: Legacy of Atlantis reimagines the 1996 original, while Catalyst is a new Northern India adventure. The announcements describe settings, engines, and broad gameplay elements, but do not establish detailed hands-on impressions or independently verified comparisons of scale or quality.
