The report did not name Burrell, and that concern was not a diagnosis or a finding about her cause of death. On July 24, The Washington Post reported that New York City’s medical examiner had ruled her death a suicide, with acute intoxication from the combined effects of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine and amphetamine as the cause.
What the 911 report said
A June 18, 2025, report relaying information from a 911 call report provided by the FDNY said a caller expressed concern about possible cardiac arrest at 7:50 a.m. on June 17. The account said the call report did not identify Burrell by name. PEOPLE reportedly connected the address to her through its own search, as described in the report. Yahoo News’ reprint of PEOPLE’s reporting gives the reported call details.
The wording reflects a caller’s concern, not a confirmed diagnosis. The 7:50 a.m. time is the time stated in that news account; it should not be treated as an independently verified timestamp from the original FDNY record.
What was later established about her death
Anne Burrell died at her Brooklyn home on June 17, 2025, aged 55. The Associated Press reported that police were called before 8 a.m., found an unresponsive woman and pronounced her dead; the police department did not publicly name her in that account. The AP’s report on her death provides those details.

On July 24, 2025, The Washington Post reported that the New York Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled Burrell’s death a suicide. The medical examiner listed the cause as acute intoxication from the combined effects of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine and amphetamine. The Washington Post’s report on the determination describes the later finding. The early call’s concern about possible cardiac arrest was not the final cause-of-death determination.
