TNT designated its sixth season as the final one; Netflix’s US listing shows six seasons. The television series was inspired by, but is distinct from, the Australian feature film of the same name.
What is Animal Kingdom about?
The series follows the Cody family and its criminal world. TNT’s official synopsis for the final season describes a cold-case investigation threatening the family as its empire expands, while the Cody brothers face the consequences of their past. The drama was developed for television by Jonathan Lisco and produced by John Wells Productions with Warner Bros. Television. TNT’s final-season announcement outlines the premise.

Is Animal Kingdom finished, and how many seasons are there?
Yes. TNT announced season six as the series’ sixth and final season. It premiered on June 19, 2022, and consisted of 13 episodes; Cox Media’s contemporaneous TNT schedule listed September 11, 2022, as the finale date. Cox Media’s schedule provides those dates and episode count. TNT’s announcement establishes that the season was final; it does not give a reason for ending the series.
Netflix’s US title page lists the show as a 2022 series with six seasons. That listing is specific to the United States and does not establish current availability in other countries. See Netflix’s US listing.

Who is in the cast?
The central family includes Pope, Craig, Deran, J and Smurf. Cast membership changes across the run. TNT’s season-five announcement names Shawn Hatosy, Ben Robson, Jake Weary, Finn Cole and Leila George, alongside Rigo Sanchez and Jon Beavers. This is a season-specific cast list, not a claim that every performer appears in every season. TNT’s renewal announcement describes the season-five setup and cast.
Is the series based on a movie?
The television series was inspired by the Australian feature film Animal Kingdom, written and directed by David Michôd and produced by Liz Watts. They are separate works: the film is the source of inspiration, not another season of TNT’s show. TNT’s announcements identify the film’s creators and the series’ connection to it. Read TNT’s description of the inspiration.
Where can you watch it?
