Disney UK’s April 2, 2025 press lineup lists April 23 as the UK transmission date for the opening chapter. That is a UK-specific listing, rather than a reason to treat April 22 and 23 as one universal release timestamp; the official material does not explain the difference.
What happened at Star Wars Celebration?
At Star Wars Celebration Japan in Tokyo, the cast and creators presented the first episode on April 19, three calendar days before the April 22 streaming premiere. How was Season 2 released?
Disney’s announcement describes a 12-episode season divided into four three-episode chapters. The first chapter premiered April 22, 2025, with subsequent chapters released weekly. This structure grouped the season into four installments rather than releasing all 12 episodes at once.
What is Season 2 about?
Andor, created by Tony Gilroy and starring Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, is a prequel to Rogue One. Lucasfilm describes the series as a story of political intrigue and the formation of the Rebellion before the film. Season 2 spans four years of story and leads toward the events of Rogue One.

StarWars.com says the new season begins one year after Maarva Andor’s funeral, with Cassian already involved in the fledgling Rebellion. Although Cassian is the central character, the story also follows its wider ensemble. In Disney’s Celebration recap, Gilroy said the season’s ending and defined structure made it possible to build the story toward Rogue One.
