The project was greenlit for Prime Video in November 2025, but consulting producer Joseph Mallozzi confirmed on June 3, 2026, that Amazon had elected not to proceed. No cast, release date, or filmed episodes were announced.
What happened to the Prime Video Stargate series?
Amazon MGM Studios announced the project in November 2025 and named Martin Gero as writer and showrunner. On June 3, 2026, consulting producer Joseph Mallozzi confirmed its cancellation, writing: “Sadly, it’s true. Amazon has elected not to move forward with the new Stargate series.” He said Gero had developed it over two years and that it had been greenlit in November 2025. Amazon’s announcement and franchise guide records the original plans; Mallozzi’s June 3 statement confirms the later change.

This cancellation concerns that specific Gero-led project. It does not establish that Amazon has ended the Stargate franchise permanently, nor do the cited sources establish a replacement pitch or revival.
Who was attached, and what had Amazon announced?
Gero had a personal history with the franchise: Amazon’s announcement quoted him saying he began television as a story editor on Stargate: Atlantis and worked across all three live-action series for five years. The announcement named these producers:
#1 Best Overall
- Movie dvd
- Executive producers: Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures, Dean Devlin, and Roland Emmerich.
- Consulting producers: Brad Wright and Joseph Mallozzi.
Amazon’s guide said additional casting and production details would be announced later. It did not name cast members or give a release date, and the project did not advance to the announced production details.
Why was it canceled?
Amazon has not publicly confirmed a reason in the sources cited here. GateWorld reported on June 2, 2026, that the series would not proceed and relayed a Variety report citing an anonymous source who said executives were concerned Gero’s version would not appeal broadly beyond existing fans. That is reported rationale, not a studio-confirmed explanation. GateWorld’s report also said filming had been planned for the fall.

Mallozzi characterized Gero’s concept differently, describing “a fresh jumping-on point for new viewers while deeply respecting existing canon.” Those comments describe the concept as Mallozzi understood it; they do not confirm why Amazon decided against moving forward.
