Who is in Wayne Brady’s blended family?
Brady and Mandie Taketa are divorced, but they have described their ongoing relationship as close friendship, co-parenting, and professional collaboration. They share a daughter, Maile. Taketa’s life partner is Jason Fordham, and they have a son, Sundance-Isamu.

Brady told TheWrap that the family they had built inspired the show and that it took work to reach that point. TheWrap reported that the family opted for an unscripted series after scripted approaches did not capture their reality. Taketa said writers had found it difficult to write authentic voices for Asian and Black households, and that the family wanted to try telling its story as itself. Maile’s perspective mattered to Brady because she has her own experience of growing up in this family.
What did the series premiere reveal about Brady’s son Val?
The premiere introduced a wider family context: Brady told viewers he had a son, Val Henry, with former partner Tina. Us Weekly’s July 24, 2024 report described Taketa and Maile as surprised by the disclosure and recounted Brady’s uncertainty about co-parenting with Tina. Those details are what the program and contemporaneous reporting established; they do not, by themselves, describe custody or current household arrangements.

What is Wayne Brady: The Family Remix about?
The family-centered unscripted series follows the relationships and everyday lives behind a family often seen publicly in brief, upbeat clips. Freeform’s announcement said the show would also acknowledge that real life is not always easy. In a TV Insider interview, Brady described the program as a “docu-follow” and said the family hoped to show that a family can be ordinary while also having members who work in entertainment.
Brady has also spoken publicly about coming out as pansexual. In a July 2024 Entertainment Tonight interview, he explained that he had not known the term earlier: “The answer is easy — because I didn’t know! Like, I didn’t know what it was even called,” Wayne explained. This is part of Brady’s own story and the series context, not a label for the family as a whole.

Wayne Brady: The Family Remix premiered on Freeform on July 24, 2024, with next-day Hulu streaming announced at launch. Hulu’s current U.S. title listing shows one season with eight episodes, and the Freeform program page directs viewers to Hulu. Availability can vary by country and change over time.
