Morrissey wrote: “To watch Mr. Baldwin’s conduct on the set of Rust is to witness a man who has absolutely no control of his own emotions and absolutely no concern for how his conduct affects those around him.” The words were Morrissey’s argument in a prosecution filing; they should not be treated as an established account of Baldwin’s personality or as proof that his conduct caused the shooting.
What was the context of the filing?
The fatal shooting occurred on the Rust set in New Mexico in October 2021. Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed. In April 2024, while Baldwin sought dismissal of the criminal case, Morrissey filed a response laying out the prosecution’s position. The filing advanced allegations; it did not resolve them as findings of fact.

What happened to the criminal case?
In July 2024, the trial court dismissed Baldwin’s involuntary-manslaughter case with prejudice after a dispute over evidence handling and disclosure. In December 2024, the prosecutor withdrew the appeal, ending the criminal case. The April filing remains a record of what the prosecution argued at the time, not a description of a pending trial.
