When and where did Elizabeth Lail and Nieku Manshadi get married?
The couple married on April 24, 2021, at Hasbrouck House, a property in Stone Ridge, New York. They had celebrated their first anniversary there and returned for the wedding. Contemporary reports also place the ceremony at Hasbrouck House on that date. Brides’ wedding feature recounts the event; Just Jared and Entertainment Tonight reported on it in 2021.
Why was the wedding so small?
Lail and Manshadi invited 22 guests during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lail said they chose to marry with family rather than postpone until they could hold a larger event. According to Brides, most guests were vaccinated, and guests who were not vaccinated were encouraged to test and quarantine. The 22-person figure is the reported attendance for this wedding, not a general measure of pandemic-era weddings.
How did the couple meet, and how did Manshadi propose?
Lail said they met at a mutual friend’s party in Williamsburg. “We met the good old-fashioned way—at a mutual friend’s party in Williamsburg!” she told Brides.

Manshadi proposed in Montauk in August 2020 during a weekend away. At sunset, beside a beach bonfire where they were making s’mores, he proposed with Lail’s grandmother’s wedding ring.

Family traditions and a first look
The day began with Manshadi taking several guests on a hike. Lail arranged a tea ceremony led by their officiant, Rachel Jesien of My Sacred Spine, with women in her family. Before the ceremony, the couple saw one another for a first look and exchanged letters.

Attire and outdoor ceremony
Lail wore a custom gown by U.K.-based designer Andrea Hawkes. Brides described it as heavyweight sandwashed Marrocaine silk, with silk-lined front buttons, a deep V neckline, a fitted bodice and three-quarter-length sleeves. Lail said, “There was an ease that came with the dress.”
Manshadi wore a dark navy Freemans Sporting Club suit, a black bow tie inspired by his grandfather, Ferragamo Oxford shoes and an IWC watch. Their outdoor ceremony took place beneath a floral arch and included traditional and Baha’i vows. The wedding bands were credited to ILACrescent and Catbird.

Dinner, dancing and keepsakes
Dinner was served at Butterfield, Hasbrouck House’s in-house restaurant. The menu included a vegan lentil dish and chicken. The reception continued with speeches, a small cake, s’mores by a bonfire and dancing; Manshadi’s family taught guests Persian dances.
On the drive to the venue, the couple bought a Polaroid camera and used it to take pictures that they later described as some of their favorite images from the night. The wedding feature does not name a camera model.

Who were the wedding vendors?
The wedding feature credited Hasbrouck House for the venue and accommodations; Rachel Jesien of My Sacred Spine as officiant; Andrea Hawkes for Lail’s gown; and Freemans Sporting Club for Manshadi’s suit. Other named credits included Dark + Diamond for floral design, Paperless Post for invitations, an Etsy itinerary, Butterfield for catering, Maxine’s Catering and Bittersweet Bakers for the cake, and Paul Simon of Forged in the North for photography. The article also named Catbird and ILACrescent for the bands, as well as Ferragamo shoes, an IWC watch and a Tiffany & Co. bracelet.
