A Sudden Case of Christmas is a 2024 family comedy about a ten-year-old who stages a Christmas celebration in August to try to keep her parents together. The story takes place at her grandfather’s hotel in Italy’s Dolomites, where Claire’s plan to reunite her family creates complications for her grandparents, too.
What is A Sudden Case of Christmas about?
Claire’s American parents bring their ten-year-old daughter to the hotel run by her grandfather, Lawrence, in the Dolomites. They intend to tell her that they are separating. Claire responds by insisting on a family Christmas in August, hoping the celebration will bring her parents back together.

She recruits Lawrence to help organize Christmas activities. The plan does not go smoothly: according to the film’s production-company synopsis, Claire’s efforts backfire and also put her grandparents’ marriage under unexpected strain. Notorious Pictures sums up the seasonal twist with the promotional line, “What a granddaughter wants, a granddaughter gets… even if that’s Christmas in August.”
