Territory will not return for a second season: Netflix Australia and New Zealand content director Que Min Luu confirmed in February 2025 that the company would not continue the series. But the finale left several questions open. Here are eight storylines it seemed to set up—not confirmed plans for a season that is no longer moving forward.
What happened to Territory season 2?
Netflix did not renew Territory. In a February 20, 2025 report, What’s on Netflix quoted Que Min Luu, Netflix’s director of content for Australia and New Zealand: “Although we won’t be continuing with another season, we eagerly anticipate working with all of them again in the future.”
The series appeared in Netflix’s global Top 10 for three weeks and accumulated 87.10 million viewing hours over those three weeks, according to viewing data cited in the same report. That figure does not establish why Netflix chose not to continue the show.
Co-creator Ben Davies said in a Mediaweek interview that the creators had answers to some of the finale’s unresolved questions: “There’s a few questions that remain unanswered. We’ve got answers.” He did not disclose those answers or a season-two outline. The possibilities below are therefore readings of the ending, not announced plots.

Eight stories the finale seemed to set up
1. Who really controls Marianne?
Colin gives Emily and Graham the keys to the big house, a gesture that appears to place them at the center of Marianne’s future. But a key handover is not the same thing as a settled transfer of ownership or authority. The finale’s final moments complicate the apparent succession, leaving open whether Colin’s gesture marks a lasting decision, a temporary alliance, or something more conditional.
2. What do Daniel’s horse and the two bullets mean?
Emily’s shot brings down Daniel’s horse. Stranded, Daniel is killed by wild dogs. At the end, Elton arrives with the horse and drops two bullets into Colin’s hand. The finale does not explain what the bullets prove or what Colin makes of them. Their arrival could affect how he sees Emily and the events surrounding Daniel, but the ending stops short of confirming that.

3. Can Sandra’s uranium plan go ahead?
Lachie tells Emily that Sandra wants to build infrastructure to enrich uranium and bury radioactive waste at an old mine. The scheme reaches beyond a search for gold: it could bring development and environmental consequences to Marianne. The finale also shows Campbell destroying a sacred place to clear a road, making the costs of the expansion visible before any hypothetical continuation could explore what happens next.
4. What becomes of Nolan’s deal and the proposed port?
Sandra persuades Nolan, an Indigenous station owner, to allow a coastal port. That agreement creates another pressure point around land, community interests and development. The finale recap does not settle the deal’s consequences or say whether the port proceeds, leaving a plausible story about who benefits and who bears the cost.

5. Can Marshall return to the family fold?
Emily brokers Marshall’s return to Marianne, and he is home when Susie dies. His guilt over her death, alongside his past with Rich and Sharnie, gives a possible continuation a personal conflict tied to the family’s larger struggle. The finale establishes his return and the circumstances around Susie’s death, but not what his place in the family would become.
6. How does the family live with Susie’s death?
Susie is killed by a charging bull while Marshall and Lachie are fighting. Marshall blames himself; Lachie blames himself and Sandra. Their different responses could shape the family’s relationships and decisions, but an extended grief storyline remains an inference rather than a disclosed plan.

7. What was in Colin’s small safe?
During Rich’s home invasion, Marshall refuses to reveal what is in the smaller safe and gives Colin a knowing look. The finale does not identify its contents. Unlike broader questions about succession or grief, this is a specific withheld detail that a follow-up could have answered directly.
8. Can Emily hold power while managing her alliances?
Emily ends the finale at the center of Marianne’s succession, with a complicated history involving Daniel and a break with Campbell. If she were to lead, she would have to navigate family suspicion as well as Sandra’s pressure over land and development. That is a plausible extension of the conflicts on screen, not a confirmed season-two arc.

What the finale leaves unresolved
The Netflix finale explainer, published October 24, 2024, confirms the key handover and the arrival of Daniel’s horse and the two bullets, but leaves their meaning and Colin’s reaction open. It also recounts the active land-development conflicts and the deaths and family tensions that could have fed a continuation. The show’s official Netflix title page remains available, but the ending’s unresolved threads are not evidence that another season is in production.
