Celebrity Parents and Their Kids: 8 Reported Approaches to Gifts, Money and Limits

Celebrity parents have described different rules for gifts, chores and money. The reports are time-bound and do not support a definitive ranking of children as spoiled or not.

There is no reliable way to rank celebrity children as “spoiled.” The available examples instead show parents describing different choices about gifts, chores, allowances and inheritance—and the reports vary in age and strength. Here are eight documented approaches, with the key distinction made clear: a parent’s stated rule is not proof of how a child behaves.

Parents who have described limits or financial responsibility

Kim Kardashian: gifts as something earned

In 2018, E! reported that Kim Kardashian said gifts in her household were earned. That is a reported rule about presents, not evidence that her children do—or do not—receive expensive things in other circumstances. E! News’ 2018 report

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher: an intention to keep celebrity trappings in perspective

In an interview reported by UPI on August 11, 2016, Mila Kunis said she and Ashton Kutcher intended to raise their children without the trappings of celebrity and not make them feel lesser or entitled. This records their stated intention at that time; it does not establish their current household rules. UPI’s 2016 report

David and Victoria Beckham: chores and pocket money, as reported

A 2022 Cheapism roundup says the Beckhams’ children did household chores for pocket change and recounts an example involving a family car. Because this is secondary reporting, it is best treated as a reported account rather than a fully verified picture of the family’s practices; the article does not establish that the arrangement continues today. Daniel Craig: a reported inheritance position

Us Weekly’s inheritance roundup lists Daniel Craig among celebrities reported not to plan large inheritances for their children, linking that choice to not wanting to spoil them. An inheritance intention is distinct from day-to-day spending or gifts, and the roundup alone does not establish the full context or whether the plan has changed. Us Weekly’s inheritance roundup

Why the comparison has limits

These cases are not points on a single strict-to-indulgent scale. Paying for chores, giving an allowance, setting rules for gifts, limiting luxury, and planning an inheritance are different decisions. A parent can set limits in one area while providing generously in another.

  • Evidence is uneven: E! and UPI report parents’ stated approaches, while the Beckham and Craig examples here come from roundups rather than independently established household records.
  • Statements are time-bound: the Kunis and Kutcher account dates to 2016, Kardashian’s to 2018, and the Beckham account to a 2022 roundup. None should be read as a current, comprehensive description of family life.
  • Children’s character is not established: a report about a gift, chore, or future inheritance cannot establish whether a child is spoiled.

What the available reporting does—and does not—show

There are not eight individually verified examples in the available reporting that can responsibly support the title’s promised split of eight parents who spoil their children and eight who do not. A BuzzFeed compilation and older Us Weekly coverage of celebrity views on allowances may point readers toward further examples, but they do not, by themselves, verify a complete roster or current practices. The 2011 allowance story is especially dated, and children mentioned then may now be adults. BuzzFeed’s compilation; Us Weekly’s 2011 allowance story

For context, TIME summarized personal-finance columnist Ron Lieber’s advice that an allowance can be a teaching tool and need not be wages for routine chores. That is general advice, not evidence about any celebrity family or proof of a single accepted parenting standard. TIME’s 2015 article
