Rick Ardon and Susannah Carr hold the Guinness World Records title for the longest-serving television news anchor duo. They began presenting Perth’s 6pm Seven News bulletin together on 24 January 1985. Their partnership reached 40 years in January 2025, and since 18 January 2026 they have anchored 7NEWS Perth’s flagship bulletin Thursday through Saturday.
What Guinness recognized
Guinness World Records recognizes the Perth presenters as the longest-serving television news anchor duo. In its account published on 9 February 2022, Guinness gave their record duration as 36 years and 361 days, verified in Perth that year. Its article also said they had presented more than 8,000 nightly news programmes by then. Guinness World Records’ account

Seven West Media’s announcement, dated 30 January 2022, gives a different duration: 36 years and 247 days. The announcement called it the official record certified by Guinness and said the pair supplied video proof for every year they had read together. Guinness’s later-published article gives 36 years and 361 days. The sources do not explain the difference, so these figures should remain attributed to their respective publishers rather than treated as one reconciled measurement. Seven West Media’s announcement
When Ardon and Carr began presenting together
Their first live broadcast together was the 6pm Seven News bulletin on 24 January 1985. Carr had started her media career as a radio announcer in 1974; Ardon joined Seven as a news journalist in 1978. 7NEWS later reported that Carr became the first female television newsreader for the ABC in Perth before joining Seven, while Ardon moved from journalism to presenting. 7NEWS’ 2022 profile

In that profile, Carr described the pair’s ease working together as a matter of knowing one another’s habits and being able to anticipate and cover for each other. That is her account of their partnership, rather than a formal explanation of how the record was verified.

In a program aired on 7 March 2026, ABC Radio National reported that they had presented the news together more than 10,000 times since 1985. This is the ABC’s dated figure; it should not be directly compared with Guinness’s 2022 count of more than 8,000 nightly programmes because the sources do not specify matching counting methods. A schedule change announced in January 2026 took effect on 18 January. Ardon and Carr anchor the flagship 6pm bulletin Thursday through Saturday; Tim McMillan and Angela Tsun present Sunday through Wednesday. The change alters the duo’s weekly on-air pattern, but not their place in the Guinness record. 7NEWS’ schedule announcement
