The best wedding-video song is the one that fits the couple and the story in the footage—not simply the track that is most popular. Use these 78-song recommendations as a starting point, then compare each option’s lyrics, mood and energy with the moments you want the film to emphasize. A song suggestion is not, by itself, permission to use the recording in a video.
78 wedding-video song ideas
Brides presents 78 songs as inspiration for couples sharing ideas with a videographer or building a highlight reel. How to choose a song for the footage
Start with the feeling and pacing of the film, then test whether the song supports them. A tender, intimate sequence may call for a different energy from a lively reception montage. The right choice is subjective, so popularity should not outweigh the couple’s own connection to the song.

- Story: Identify the moments the edit centers on—such as the ceremony, quiet exchanges, or dancing—and choose a track that suits that story.
- Lyrics: Listen for the song’s meaning, not just its sound. Words that feel romantic in isolation may not fit the specific moments shown.
- Mood and energy: Decide whether the film should feel intimate, joyful, romantic, or energetic. Acoustic and dance-oriented tracks offer different starting points.
- Pacing: Consider how the music’s tempo and changes sit alongside the footage and planned edits.
- Couple’s preference: Make sure both partners like the song; a popular choice is not automatically a personal one.
A song recommendation is not video permission
In the United States, the U.S. Copyright Office explains that incorporating music into an audiovisual work requires synchronization licenses from both the owner of the musical work and the owner of the sound recording. The musical work and a particular recorded performance are separate rights to consider. See the Copyright Office’s Copyright and the Music Marketplace report.
A streaming subscription or a mechanical license does not automatically clear a commercial recording for synchronization in a wedding film. The Copyright Office’s Section 115 materials describe a framework for specified phonorecord uses, such as downloads and interactive streams; that is distinct from permission to pair music with video.

Before editing or publishing, confirm the required rights and terms for the exact recording, the intended video, the relevant territory, and every planned distribution platform with the rights holder or a licensing provider. Requirements and processes can depend on the use and jurisdiction; the Copyright Office guidance cited here concerns U.S. copyright.

Consider a licensed production-music track with a similar mood or energy. Soundstripe offers editorial guidance on music licensing, but its article alone does not establish that a particular license covers a wedding film or the couple’s intended platforms: Soundstripe: music licensing guidance for videographers. Read the provider’s current terms and confirm that the license covers both the video use and its planned delivery or publication before selecting a track.
