Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

Most of the Jackbox options below use one person’s game screen and let both players join from phones, while Tabletopia offers a different route for playing board and card games online.
How to choose a virtual date game
Start with the mood, not the score. A personal prompt or guessing game can create openings for conversation; a cooperative challenge makes communication part of the task; and a rhythm game is a more performative, low-stakes choice. If you prefer a familiar board-game format, try a tabletop platform instead.
- For conversation: look at personal prompts, surveys, or clue-giving.
- For teamwork: choose a cooperative mode or a game where players must exchange information.
- For competition: choose a score-based trivia or guessing format.
- For a lighter, less verbal activity: consider a rhythm game.
These are date-night activities, not relationship treatments. A 2025 mixed-methods study by Nisha Devasia, Adrian Rodriguez, Logan Tuttle, and Julie Kientz examined 13 couples who frequently played games together. It found differences in couples’ play styles and how they used game mechanics to express affection virtually; the small sample does not show that gaming improves relationships. Read the study abstract.
Seven games and formats to try
1. Fibbage 4: bluffing with personal prompts
Players fill in a blank in a true fact with a convincing lie, then try to fool one another. The “Enough About You” mode turns prompts toward the people playing, making it a more personal option than general trivia. Jackbox’s couples guide lists it in The Jackbox Party Pack 9. See Jackbox’s couples guide.

5. The Poll Mine: predict each other’s rankings

How to set up a Jackbox date remotely
Jackbox does not offer online matchmaking, but its support documentation describes screen sharing and Steam Remote Play Together as ways to play remotely. One person runs the game; the other joins from a browser-enabled phone. Use a voice or video call alongside the game so you can see and talk to each other.
- Choose a compatible host device and game. One person runs the Jackbox title on a compatible computer or console. Check device support and the game-pack contents before the date.
- Start a call. Jackbox recommends Google Meet, Discord, or Zoom as the call layer. Decide whether to run the call on a separate device or switch between the call and game.
- Share the game view. Share the host’s screen through the call, or use Steam Remote Play Together where supported. Jackbox says only one person needs to own a title for Remote Play Together; the number of people who can participate may depend on internet speed.
- Join the game. Both players open Jackbox.tv in a browser on their phones and enter the room code shown on the shared game screen.
- Check audio and connection before starting. Confirm both players can see the game and hear its audio, as well as hear each other over the call.
Jackbox’s support article explains that its games do not have online matchmaking, but can be played remotely through different methods. Read the remote-play options. Its game-night guidance says, “Only one person needs to purchase a game in order for others to join and play along too.” See the game-night guidance.

Tabletopia can keep play and optional video chat in one client, but the chat feature has practical requirements. The participant sending video or audio must grant camera and microphone permissions. Tabletopia warns that video chat can slow performance in browsers and recommends desktop-class hardware; connection speed also affects performance. Check the platform’s current feature terms before relying on video chat. Read Tabletopia’s video chat requirements.
