Rather than pad a list with unverified titles or treat future films as recommendations, this guide highlights the confirmed standouts and separates upcoming movies from films audiences can already seek out.
How to read this guide
“Best” is an editorial judgment, not a result established by a release calendar. Awards offer one useful signal, but they are not a universal quality score; story, animation craft, genre, intended audience and actual availability also matter. The picks below are not an objectively ranked top 50. Release dates and viewing options vary by country, so check local listings and streaming catalogs before making plans.

Recent animated films with award recognition
KPop Demon Hunters
This 2025 film won the Academy Award for Animated Feature at the 2026 ceremony. It follows Korean girl group HUNTR/X as its members fight demons and face a rival boy band. The Associated Press highlights its combination of 2D anime aesthetics and stylized 3D CGI. AP also reported that eight songs from the soundtrack appeared on the Billboard Hot 100; that is evidence of the music’s reach, not a measure of the film’s quality. See the Academy’s 2026 results and AP’s report.
Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl
For viewers drawn to character-led comedy, this Wallace and Gromit feature has a major industry accolade: it won the BAFTA for Animated Film in 2025. The award establishes its recognition, rather than a universal ranking or current availability. Check BAFTA’s film award results.

Zootropolis 2
This sequel won BAFTA’s 2026 Animated Film award, giving it a place among recent award-recognized features. As with any theatrical release, whether and where it can be watched depends on the viewer’s market and current distribution listings. BAFTA’s results page records the award.
Announced 2026 animated movies
These films belong in a watchlist, not a recommendation ranking, until their release status and audience reception are established. Studio schedules can change, and a release announcement says nothing by itself about a film’s quality.
Hoppers
Disney announced a March 6, 2026 release for this feature. That date is from the company’s spring 2026 slate announcement; check current local listings to establish whether it has opened in your market and where it is available. Disney’s announcement.
Toy Story 5
Disney’s same slate announcement listed the film for June 19, 2026. The schedule listing is not a quality assessment, and current release status or access may differ by territory. See the announced slate.

Disney’s Annecy 2026 announcement identifies a November 25, 2026 theatrical release. As of the announcement, it is a future release; check for schedule changes and territory-specific details. Disney’s Annecy announcement.

Gatto
Pixar presented new details and artwork for this upcoming animated adventure at Annecy 2026. The announcement supports its status as an upcoming film, but does not provide a verified release date or grounds for ranking its quality. Read Disney’s announcement.
Forgotten Island and Wildwood
The Associated Press included both features in its fall 2026 movie guide. It describes Wildwood as a Laika stop-motion feature adapted from Colin Meloy’s book. The guide is evidence of their place on the season’s slate, not proof that either has opened in a particular market or is available to watch. See AP’s fall movie guide.

Why this is not a verified list of 50
A credible “best new animated movies” list needs a defined release window and territory, title-by-title confirmation of release and viewing availability, and enough reliable information to assess the films—not just a schedule entry. The evidence here establishes recent awards and selected slate announcements, but it does not establish 50 comparable, released films or a consistent basis for ranking them. Adding more titles without that support would make the list look complete at the expense of accuracy.
