These five color directions—drawn from 2025 seasonal recommendations—range from cool blue-gray to warm cherry and coffee tones. They are options, not a ranked forecast for 2026.
1. Slate blue: a cool-toned neutral
Slate blue, also described as grayish blue, brings color without the brightness of a vivid blue. Vogue’s 2025 fall guide cites nail artist Gina Edwards on this family and gives Zoya Nail Lacquer in Tommy and Essie Air Dry as examples (Vogue).
When picking a shade, consider how pale or deep you want it, whether it reads more blue or gray, and whether you prefer a cream finish or shimmer. A softer blue-gray can act like a moody neutral; a deeper slate makes the blue more noticeable.
2. Ink blue or dark denim: two different depths of blue
Ink blue is the stronger, more saturated choice. Zoya creative director Rebecca Isa described it in Who What Wear’s 2025 fall report as sitting between navy and cobalt (Who What Wear). Dark denim is softer: NewBeauty describes it as a medium-dark, gray-toned blue that is cooler than navy, with Manucurist Poppy Seed and essie to me from me as examples (NewBeauty).

Choose ink blue for a bold, clean blue impression; choose denim when you want more gray in the mix. Both give a darker alternative to slate without moving into black or classic navy.
3. Cherry mocha: layer brown and wine
Cherry mocha combines the depth of brown with a red-wine finish. For a specific at-home version, OPI’s 2025 Thanksgiving inspiration article suggests layering You Don’t Know Jacques with Malaga Wine or Complimentary Wine (OPI). The brand presents this as a fall look; the combination is a useful starting point if you already own the shades.

Apply the brown as a base, then layer the wine shade to build the effect. The resulting color will depend on the opacity and number of coats, so start with a thin layer and add more until the balance looks right to you.
4. Deep cherry or burgundy: choose how red you want to go
Deep cherry brings a rich red into the November palette. Vogue’s 2025 trend coverage, citing nail artist Tom Bachik, highlights deep cherry among the season’s wine and plum shades and names Essie Berry Naughty as one example (Vogue). Who What Wear’s 2025 fall report also covers cherry red and burgundy (Who What Wear).

For a brighter, livelier manicure, look for a clearer cherry red. For a moodier result, choose a shade with more wine or purple in it. The distinction matters more than the label on the bottle: “cherry” can describe colors that range from fresh red to dark berry.

For fall 2025, celebrity manicurist Julie Kandalec recommended a range of brown tones—from espresso and milk-chocolate mocha to hazelnut latte—in Who What Wear (Who What Wear). NewBeauty also names OPI Over the Taupe in its coverage of a two-toned chocolate-brown look (NewBeauty).

Think about depth and warmth when choosing: espresso is the darkest direction, while milk-chocolate and hazelnut shades are lighter. If you prefer a cooler brown, Manucurist describes its Mocha shade as a cool-toned dark brown in a November 2025 brand article (Manucurist); that is the brand’s characterization, rather than an independent color assessment.
How to choose a November shade
- For a cool, subdued manicure: start with slate blue or gray-toned denim.
- For a more vivid blue: choose ink blue, which leans closer to cobalt than a soft denim shade.
- For a red with extra depth: try deep cherry, burgundy, or the layered cherry mocha combination.
- For a warm neutral: choose a brown from hazelnut or milk chocolate through to espresso.
These are seasonal recommendations, not a definitive ranking. Vogue, Who What Wear, NewBeauty, and OPI reported these ideas in 2025; they do not establish what will be forecast for 2026.
