Which documentary fits what you want to watch?
Who Is Martin Mull? — October 7
Martin Mull’s work crossed several creative fields: comedy, music, television and painting. Directed by Bob Saget and Neil Berkeley, the film tells his story in Mull’s own words, with reflections from friends including Steve Martin, Tom Waits and David Alan Grier. Netflix describes a path from folk clubs to sitcoms and gallery walls; Mull sums it up as having “had a hell of a ride.”
Norm: The Tale of Norm Macdonald — October 16
Directed by Judd Apatow, this portrait follows Norm Macdonald’s stand-up and television career, including his time anchoring Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update.” Netflix says it draws on archival footage, photographs and rare home videos contributed by friends and fans, with Macdonald telling his story in his own voice. Its emphasis on personal and archival material distinguishes it from a conventional career overview.

Paralyzed by Hope: The Maria Bamford Story — October 23
Co-directed by Judd Apatow and Neil Berkeley, the documentary follows Maria Bamford from childhood in Duluth, Minnesota, through her career in Los Angeles and into her present-day life. Netflix says it explores how mental health and family relationships shaped her art and career, making this the lineup’s most explicitly personal account of the connection between lived experience and comedy.
SCTV: The Greatest Show You’ve Never Heard Of — October 30
Rather than focus on one comedian, director Jason Hehir’s film follows the rise, fall and influence of the Canadian sketch-comedy series SCTV. Netflix describes cast interviews, rare archival material and a reunion in Toronto. Featured cast members include Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, Rick Moranis, Martin Short and Joe Flaherty.

Are these all the documentaries coming to Netflix in October?
No. These four are the comedy-documentary slate Netflix identified in its October 7 announcement. Its broader October calendar also lists Lorne, about Lorne Michaels and Saturday Night Live, for October 5, and The One About Matthew Perry for October 27. Netflix describes the latter as a three-part documentary series about Perry’s Hollywood career, addiction struggles and death. Those titles are part of the wider documentary schedule, not replacements for any of the four comedy titles above.

“Can’t-miss” is a recommendation, not a finding supported by audience scores or independent reviews in the official listings. Netflix promotes the group as “powerful and poignant”; that is Netflix’s characterization. Choose by subject and approach: an artist’s many creative identities, Macdonald’s archive-led portrait, Bamford’s personal story or the history of an ensemble series. Release dates and regional availability may change, so confirm the listing in your Netflix account.
