Social voting through official posts joins the show’s participation options, Hollywood Week is moving to Nashville, and a new ‘Ohana Round in Hawaii gives judges—not viewers—the decision on who advances at that stage.
What is changing in American Idol Season 24?
AOL reported the format updates on January 31, 2026: viewers can vote through social media, the stage still called Hollywood Week is taking place in Nashville rather than Los Angeles, and contestants face a new ‘Ohana Round filmed at Aulani Resort in Hawaii. The changes affect different parts of the competition: one expands audience participation, while the other two change the setting and selection process for contestants.

How does social-media voting work?
ABC’s voting help page says viewers can vote by commenting on the official pinned voting post on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok while voting is open. Use the active post and its attached instructions: the help page gives general guidance, not a guarantee that every platform or voting method is available in every round. Check the rules, eligibility requirements, and deadline for that ballot before voting.
In AOL’s account, showrunner Megan Michaels Wolflick described the social option as a way to make it easier for viewers to weigh in in real time using a second screen, and said the show hoped to reach younger audiences. That is the showrunner’s stated rationale, not evidence that the change has achieved that result.

Why is Hollywood Week in Nashville?
Season 24’s Hollywood Week is in Nashville, although the show retains the familiar name for the competition stage. Wolflick’s explanation, as quoted by AOL, is that Nashville is a major music-industry hub in its own right. The relocation changes the setting; the report does not establish that it changes contestants’ odds or the criteria for advancing.
What happens in the ‘Ohana Round?
The new round was filmed at Aulani Resort in Hawaii. According to AOL, contestants perform for the judges and a panel of industry tastemakers, and the judges choose who advances. America does not vote during this stage. That makes the ‘Ohana Round different from voting rounds: social voting is a way for viewers to participate when an official ballot is open, not a means of deciding these reported eliminations.
