Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare had a disappointing theatrical run compared with its reported production budget, then reached No. 1 on Peacock’s movie chart in May 2026. That chart peak shows a later streaming success, but it does not reveal how many people watched or whether the film ultimately made a profit.
What happened at the box office?
The Numbers lists a $60 million production budget and $26,994,413 in worldwide theatrical gross for the 2024 film. Its theatrical gross was about 0.45 times the listed production budget, a comparison that supports calling the theatrical performance financially disappointing.

The figures are not a profit-and-loss statement. Theatrical gross is not the same as the amount returned to the studio, and the cited figures do not account for distribution costs or later revenue from streaming, home entertainment, and other rights. The available numbers therefore do not establish whether the film was ultimately profitable. The Numbers’ film listing reports the following theatrical totals:
| Measure | Reported figure |
|---|---|
| Production budget | $60,000,000 |
| Worldwide theatrical gross | $26,994,413 |
| Domestic theatrical gross | $20,535,053 |
| International theatrical gross | $6,459,360 |
| U.S. opening weekend | $8,913,698 (opening April 19, 2024) |
Why is it being called a streaming hit?
The film reached the top of Peacock’s movie chart in May 2026. ComingSoon reported it at No. 1 as of May 20, citing FlixPatrol chart data; CinemaBlend also reported a No. 1 movie position based on May 26 numbers. These are dated chart observations, not evidence that it is currently No. 1 or that it attracted a particular number of viewers. Neither report supplies a title-specific viewer total or viewing-hours figure.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is it a documentary or an accurate account of wartime events?
No: it is a dramatized action-comedy, not a documentary. The official release description says the film is “Inspired by true events and based on the declassified files of the British War Department.” The Numbers likewise classifies it as a dramatization and its source material as inspired by a true story. Those descriptions establish the film’s broad inspiration, not the accuracy of individual scenes or characters.
