They do not support a reliable list of 15 close wrestler friends. The distinction matters: sharing a storyline or a tour does not, by itself, establish a private friendship.
Which of Hogan’s friendships are supported by firsthand accounts?
The accounts below differ in what they establish. Some describe an explicitly close personal friendship; others document a friendship that changed over time, or a formative professional bond. They are recollections by the people involved, not independent proof of every detail.

Randy Savage: creative partners, a rupture and reconciliation
Hogan recalled that Savage would call him late at night to discuss wrestling ideas, a sign of how closely their creative and personal lives were intertwined during their partnership as the Mega Powers. Their relationship was not uninterrupted: the pair had a real falling-out before later reconciling. In a 2014 WWE interview, Hogan said: “The only other person that I could call at three or four o’clock in the morning to talk about wrestling and would even answer their phone is Vince McMahon. And that’s how Randy was. Except Randy called me!” WWE’s 2014 interview with Hogan
Jimmy Hart: friends from the Memphis territory
Hart said he met Hogan while managing wrestlers in Memphis for Jerry Lawler. He recalled that Hogan was among the people he managed and that they became friends there, before reuniting later in New York. Hart’s account was given on the Battleground Podcast and reported by Ringside News. “We became friends back then,” he said. Ringside News’ report on Hart’s account

Rick Martel: friends and roommates in the AWA
Martel described a relationship that extended beyond sharing a wrestling promotion: he and Hogan shared an apartment for a few months while in the AWA. In a retrospective interview, Martel called them close friends: “When I was in the AWA, Hulk Hogan and I shared an apartment for a few months, so we were close friends.” He also recalled traveling with André the Giant when they were in the same towns and being friends with both men. Ric Flair: friendship behind the public rivalry
Flair said that the public framing of him and Hogan as enemies did not reflect their private relationship. In an interview after Hogan’s death, Flair described them as very close friends who kept in touch regularly: “People always wanted to paint us as enemies, but we were actually very close friends. We kept with each other on a regular basis.” His account was reported by Sports Illustrated from an interview with TMZ Sports. Sports Illustrated’s report on Flair’s remarks

Pat Patterson: a mentor who became a close friend
Hogan credited Patterson with teaching him basic ring skills early in his career, including how to take bumps and move through the ropes. He said their relationship grew into close friendship over the years. “Pat Patterson took time out of his schedule to come down and teach me how to take bumps, how to go out through the ropes and do all kind of stuff, and then as the years went by we became really close friends.” Hogan shared the recollection in an interview with India Today. What does Brutus Beefcake’s history with Hogan establish?
Beefcake and Hogan toured together early in their careers as the Boulder Brothers. A Slam Wrestling report on a public panel says Beefcake described them scraping by and sleeping in a van. That supports a substantial shared working history and close professional partnership. The reported excerpt does not quote Beefcake describing Hogan as a close personal friend, so it would overstate the evidence to present their private closeness as established. Why the distinction between friendship and storyline matters
Professional wrestling gives wrestlers good reasons to work closely: they may share a promotion, travel, live together, train one another or portray allies and rivals. Those facts can explain how a relationship developed, but they are not interchangeable with a personal friendship. Here, Martel explicitly recalled being close friends with Hogan; Patterson described a friendship that grew from mentorship; and Flair and Hart spoke directly about friendship. The Beefcake account establishes touring and teaming, while Hogan’s account of Savage describes both intimacy and a relationship that later fractured and healed.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why this is not a substantiated list of 15
The available accounts support five named wrestler friendships and Beefcake as a significant early touring and teaming partner. They do not establish 15 independently supported close friendships. Adding names based only on shared matches, alliances on television or professional association would blur the difference between a documented friendship and a plausible guess.
